Rolling puppy on back in play

Diva loooooves tummy rubs and will frequently roll onto her back to ask for them. Sometimes while we are playing or snuggling on the floor I will gently roll her over and rub/kiss her tummy, which she loves. But since I've been on the forum I've seen a lot of discussion of the "alpha roll" and whether it is ok or not to roll a puppy on her back to discipline her, so I'm curious if it's ok to do so gently in affectionate play? I am NOT trying to alpha roll her or discipline her in any way in these situations, just give her cute belly some love. If she is happy it is okay, right?

I'm sure it's ok, if she know you don't do it for discipline. (Loove the pic! she's so cute)

they should always offer it, meaning don't force it.

According to dog training historian Glenn Martyn, the origin of the scruff shake and alpha roll appears to be from dog training literature in both Northern American and English dog training books of the 1930-1950’s. That was a long time ago, it’s time to get updated! This term is actually a misnomer, it really is not something wolves do or something we should be doing. Unfortunately there still are some ignorant trainers and owners that try this procedure.

she always sleeps like that if she's not curled up in her crate... just flopped on her back with her little wiggly legs sticking up! <3

belly rubs are always acceptable when the belly is just begging for some serious lovey-doveys .... The alpha roll is a disciple thing usually accompanied with a stern and serious voice.

Jack likes having his chest rubbed and shoulders massaged.

When Kodi is relaxed and "looking for love", you can "push him over" with a gentle nudge, and he will immediately offer his belly for rubs. If he's not in the mood, it would take force to get him on his back, and we would never "make" him.

I think as long as Diva is rolling over for belly rubs, cuddles or playing its fine. Leo is always rolling over on his back in laps and loves to sleep belly up in the crook of someone's arm like a baby.
