that reinforces what i've always believed. I think it also goes towards "bad breeding". Most reputable breeders breed for personality and termperment in addition to just "looks". Can't say the same for puppy mills.

I'm just glad that all the pet stores in my area stopped selling dogs in the past couple years. They've also shut down a lot of puppy mills too. The SPCA has been sitting empty, so they've brought in dogs from shelters in the southern US to adopt out!

I think you're right, about breeding for temperament, although there are also show breeders who aren't doing their part there.

We don't have a lot of "pet stores" that still sell puppies, but we have several places that, for lack of a better name, I call "puppy mill outlets". They are places that specialize in selling puppies. Our local one is called "Pick a Pup". If they don't have the breed you want, they'll get it for you. MANY of the "purebred" dogs in our area, and most of the designer dogs, come from there. The place is nice and clean, the puppies are clean and all in indoor pens bedded with wood shavings. If you ask them if they puppies come from puppy mills, the answer is "No! All our puppies come from hand-chosen family farms in the mid-west!" Right! It's SO easy for people to take them at their word and believe they are buying a quality puppy. Lots of people don't do their homework, and just impulse-buy the cute puppy!
