Nutro Natural Choice For Puppies Too Rich?

Hi Everyone,
I just got a beautiful new 2 month old hav puppy named "Neige". When I got her they gave me Nutro Natural Choice For Puppies and 2 supplements and a dewormer to put in yogurt. She has had loose stools from the night I brought her home. The third day I took her to Angell Memorial in Boston and the vet tested her stool and Blood and said everything was normal. He thought the supplements and yogurt were bothering her gave nd her a new dewormer and fluids and told me to only give her the kibble (mushed up in water)and to stop the supplements and yogurt. A week later still no change! My friend owns a dogcare co. and told me to try white rice.... finally I see a change. I feel so badly for my cutie pie! I know that the vets at Angell Memorial are amazing but is there anyone who thinks that Nutro Natural Choice For Puppies may be too rich for some hav puppies?
Happy Holidays!
Thanks for your Help,
Laura

As you will find out, some Havs have very sensitive stomachs. Also, the change to a new environment can be stressful for them, so that could be another reason for the loose stools. If all her tests came back OK, I wouldn't worry too much.

Hope to see pictures of your little one.

I believe the wormer could be causing her to have loose stools~ It's made to "clean them out" along with any worms they may have~ plus a quick change in kibble will result in loose stools also. Plus the fact that she is in a new enviornment and has had lots of changes.
I would give her little body a break and just feed her straight kibble for a few days and see if that helps~
ps, I dont think the Nutro is too rich for Hav puppies~

2 months old seems really young. Could it be that she is away from her mom and siblings too early and it is more stress than the actual food?

My three have all grown up on Nutro Natural Puppy rice & lamb. They did fine with it. ARe you giving a dewormer regularly?? That is probably not good and that could be causing the loose stool. I happen to love the Nutro products but because of a mineral issue with my oldest my guys are now on vet diet, but as puppies they were all on Nutro Puppy till they were 6 months.

Laura,

I have had problems with loose stools/diarreaha with Missy ( now 5 months old ). Read this thread and see if some of the infor helps you. It helped me.

I am feeding Missy Solid Gold (low protein) beef now is working really well for her, I think she was sensitive to wheat/fillers in dog food and maybe chicken.

Here is that thread

Laura, welcome to the forum and congrats on your new puppy!!

I don't know about the Nutro but I do think puppies are individual in what they react to, Tessa was having mushy stools on Purina Pro Plan. When I switched her to Innova they firmed up. You could always slowly introduce a new food to see how she reacts to it. My locally owned specialty pet store gave me lots of free samples so we didn't have to buy a whole bag only to find out it wouldn't work.

Good luck...and pictures of Neige please

My Bonnie had loose stools on Nutro for puppies, eventhough that's what my breeder fed her. She suggested I change her to Eukanuba and that firmed her right up, so I've kept her on it. I think they diapoo might have been triggered by the environment change but I know she was healthy.
I found it very helpful to keep a good dialogue with the breeder (she really loves her pups and knows heaps about the breed). Can you contact them?

Thanks for everyone's help! I have been giving her boiled chicken and rice for the last couple of days and she is much better. She loves it and is learning to beg! Uh Oh! I am concerned she won't make the switch back to kibble. We'll see.

Yes- I have been in contact and they have been helpful.

I am just so happy that she is feeling better!

Tori is on Nutro Ultra for Puppies and is doing very well. Her stools are firm, she's full of energy, and is gaining weight nicely. Her vet was pleased w/the choice of this food.
Just my 2 cents!

BTW, and congratulations on your new little one! And, yes, please!
