Happy Peeing :-/

Our little Maverick has a slight problem. He's 14 weeks old and an absolute joy, except that he pees whenever he sees me after even a short absence. He doesn't seem to do this when anyone else greets him. He is very excited to see my parents (they have him during the day) and my husband, but he doesn't pee. Whenever I walk in he greets me with excited wiggles and a puddle. He isn't housebroken yet, but is this something I should be concerned about? Will he outgrow this phase? Should I greet him differently?

Most likely, he will outgrow it, although a few dogs continue doing it even as adults. Most, however stop doing it as they get more muscle control.

But you can also lessen the likelihood of it happening by keeping your greetings as calm and matter of fact as possible. Come in, put your things away, and COMPLETELY ignore him until he settles down. THEN greet him very quietly and gently. He's a little puppy, so he IS going to get excited at times, but keep it as low-key as you possibly can.

So far, so good!

Thank you for the tips! Today when I came home from work I walked right by him and sat down in a chair until he settled down, and no pee!! Perhaps my excitement at seeing him was contributing to his urination issues. I'll keep it up and see if that solves it. I think I'm probably the most exuberant when I greet him so that's probably why I'm the only one that gets that response.

Oh goodness I have a "happy peepee" boy as well. Hes a little over a yr old now and cant seem to hold it when hes happy. Drives me crazy. Ricco gets so excited to see his peoples and then...pee. We take him strait out the door to potty then tie him on a lead for 10 min to calm down. Normally this works...normally lol.
