Bathing Puppies

Hi everyone. Cody is 12 weeks old and I'd like to make sure he has a nice coat. How often is it good to bathe puppies and is there anything special to feed him that would help? I read in another tread the Pantene was a good shampoo to use.
Thanks all.

I'd recommend sticking to dog products due to the pH of dogs being different than humans. If Cody stays indoors and doesn't get smelly, you can easily go a month between shampoos when they are young. It will also keep from stripping the natural oils of their hair. However, I can't ever go that long. I bathe about every two weeks when they are young. As they get older, I tend to bathe closer to every 10 days.

I agree with Kimberly on all point. I was bathing Kubrick about every 2 weeks or so (sometimes 3). Now I bathe him once a week but only because he gets VERY dirty on Sundays when we walk in Central Park for 3 hours.

I also give Kubrick Salmon Oil for his coat. You just add it to their food.

As far as shampoo, I use the Eqyss line of Shampoo and Conditioner and his coat is softer than ever. I used to use Coat Handler and it's a good shampoo/conditioner but the Eqyss worked better for Kubrick. I still use the Coat Handler conditioner when brushing Kubrick for mats (it's a leave-on conditioner).

Thanks for the question, I have the same one. Toby had a bath a week ago and waiting two is going to be tough...but I'm glad to know what is best.

bathing

sort of depends on if you are showing or not. If you are showing, you need to bathe weekly . The pantene is actually fine for the dog coat. You do not want the natural oils to build up in the coat if showing as the oil attracts dirt which breaks down the coat. If you are not showing, it is not a problem , once every 2 or 3 weeks is ok. We bathe our show dogs weekly and they have much nicer coats. Susan

I don't plan on showing Cody but I've seen some photos here with beautiful coats and it would be nice to have that kind of coat. I'd like Cody's coat to be nice and healthy.

I just cannot go a week between baths -- especially with my white Bonnie. Although, that is my ultimate goal. She gets too darn dirty. I really don't know how she manages it. I bathe them with Pantene (the conditioner does magnificent things for their hair) and with Bonnie, I use a whitening shampoo. Because their coats are shorter, I just let them air-dry (it's also pretty warm here!). I add Omega 3's to their food.

I use the Eqyss products and love them. They make Brady's coat feel so soft. Brady is groomed every 6 weeks by the groomer and I usually bathe him once in between. That is unless he gets into the mud or rolls in something nasty. Then, he can end up with multiple baths in one week
