Puppy sore after shots

My little Lola just got her shots today. She screamed out like a banshee when she got the first one, I nearly passed out. Since she has been back from the vet, she has been sleeping. When she moves around while sleeping, she will sometimes cry out. She was given shots in each shoulder. I feel terrible. Is there anything I can do for her?

Scooter cried the first time but hasn't since then. I think they're just so scared with new people and new environment. I hope she feels better, she's adorable!

Gryff had some bad reactions to his first shots. His shoulder was all inflamed and he sulked in a corner for a week. He got better.

Our vet had us pick up a special antihistamine that we were to give to Linus 20 minutes before shots so he would not have a reaction. It worked great! I would definitely ask about it for next time. You might see or feel a lump on the injection site in the next few days. This sometimes happens with reactions. It can take a month or more to go away.

The main thing is to make sure your puppy's face or mouth is not swelling, but this usually happens pretty quickly. It sounds like your puppy's reaction is a more mild one.

Good luck and take care,
Karen

thanks for your replies everyone! Lola is doing better, no longer yelping in pain when she moves around. She ate her full plate of food and even played a little. Hoping she'll be back to normal tomorrow!
