Can someone tell me

At what age do a male's testicles descend? I know when I got Milo at 5 1/2 months old he had one, which was why I got him. Now Bailey is almost six months old and I don't see anything yet. Is this unusual?

Simon is 4 months old and has both of his. I would call the vet and ask them about it.

Yep they should be down no later than 12 weeks, at six months it's likely that the tube they travel up and down (actually the ring) closes and they are stuck up there. Your breeder should pay the cost difference between a regular neuter and the more extensive surgery Bailey will require. Now, make sure your vet checks for them. Some puppies are very clever at "sucking them up" when checked. It's not a big deal, but definitely something you'll want done by three years of age. Also your breeder should be aware that this particular dam/sire combo is throwing this genetic defect. It's recessive in females (obviously) so often if it's an all female litter they don't have any idea that they've got this hidden in their lines. Many people panic and there really is no need. Often they are just in the folds near the back legs and require an additional 15 minutes of surgery. Up in the abdomen is much more extensive and can take up to an hour since they are very small due to being retained. The body heat prevents proper development.

Geri, don't panic. Just get vet confirmation at his next visit. Then talk with your breeder.

Todd had both of his at 9 weeks. That's actually the first thing that I checked when we picked Todd up because my Ragdoll (cat) had one undecended and he had to have a Neuter and exploratory surgery to find the other one...it was about $100 more to do the exploratory. He has a noticible scar on his belly and the recoup time was about a week instead of a couple of days.

Oh shoot. This will then be the second boy I got from her with testicle issues. How lucky can a gal get.

Geri - it's in her lines. Many breeders don't understand that a single testicle boy used as stud is passing them on - maybe not the next generation - but at some point. The second time round I'd be pretty mad and expect full payment for the extra expense. But that's me.

I agree with Lisa, the breeder needs to chip in for the extra cost for the neuter. Tito had his from the get go, and they "fully sticking" out in his nether regions at around 4 or 5 months when the vet was originally asking us about neuter stuff.

Just to clarify, your vet cant feel them or anything?

That was going to be my question because Guapo's just appeared (he's a little over 5 months) but his vet checked for them at his first visit with her and she said she could feel them both so we didn't need to worry about them being undescended. I would talk to your vet before panicking.

I never looked!
I couldn't take my eyes off of Henry's sweet face and butt long enough!
(thank goodness my vet was on top of everything!)

He hasn't been back to the vet since he had his last set of shots shortly after he came home in May. I wasn't aware there was a problem then. It's just now I was surprised that I can't see them at all. I'll have to take him in.
