Teething - pain???

I hope somebody can help us with some suggestions...

Scooter is apparently teething. He's almost 6 months old and we've found 5 teeth that he's lost, others have been lost according to the vet. He's chewing on us almost constantly when he isn't sleeping on an AC vent! (LOL) He doesn't want to eat his kibble but will eat the canned food, he's even passing up treats. He takes them but walks away, sets the treat down and will lie down by it but doesn't protest when we take it away. He's drinking water and peeing and pooing ok. Sleeping a LOT and rubbing his face on the carpet when he's awake. I wish there was doggie Tylenol, if I was sure it was teething. He doesn't really want to chew on anything we've tried.

Any ideas???

Poor baby! Is he getting his adult teeth in right behind the baby teeth so he can chew?

They make doggy teething toys that you can try. They are just like baby teethers and you can chill them but they are much stronger for puppies. Make sure he has plenty to chew on. Nylabones are good, soft or hard. Some dogs dont like the soft ones as much but you'll just have to find what he does like.

For Kubrick, I used to tie a towel into a knot, wet it, throw it in the freezer and gave it to him when it froze. It helped numb his gums and it soothed him. Maybe that would work for poor Scooter.

Shamouti is teething too and he really likes the Chilly Bone. It's a soft toy that you wet and freeze. I also do the same with a washrag for a spare and he like that well too! http://www.dogtoys.com/chillybone.html

I'll try the frozen washcloth. He's getting the adult teeth and some of the baby teeth aren't falling out, his gums are swollen and red. I feel so sorry for him! This morning he came to me, sat down, whined and then laid down next to me.

Right now he's rolling on the floor with his Flossie, he chews it a minute then runs across the carpet rubbing his face and back to the Flossie. It's funny to watch but I feel bad because it must hurt.

awww poor scooter. We used the chilly bone and wet rags too. can you soften the kibble with warm water?

also, maybe a 1/2 of baby asprin given with some food. Check with your vet first though. (As an adult at 18 lbs Jaspers dose was one baby asprin once a day for a sprain)

I hope he feels better.

Yes, I believe a toy or two in the freezer is a good idea to have on-hand.
I never found any of Henry's teeth. I think he swallowed them!

That is funny--between 2 dogs, I only found 1 tooth. And neither seemed to complain too much.
