Question I would love some advice!

Hello everyone!
I am new to the forum and I am also going to be a new mommy to a havanese.

I am getting Pancakes on the 22nd of September (of course after much research through several breeders and lots of information about the breed)

I would just love some advice from all of you who are more experienced...Just any tips, ideas, training advice that you can give would be appreciated...I read through all sorts of information online, but then I begin to wonder if whoever is writing it even has a havanese---so I would like some advice from people who actually do!

Thanks!
Rachele

Congrats on the puppy you will be getting soon. Love the name. Boy or girl? What color? Everyone loves pics so be sure to post. There is tons of info on this site regarding any topic you may have concerns on, from food to house breaking to tear stains. As a newbie myself (Pixie is 4 months old), I would suggest firstoff getting a high quality puppy food, a wire crate for sleeping, toys for teething, and get your game plan ready for potty training (lots of advice on this forum about that). Get referrals for a good vet. My breeder lives 5 miles from me, so I ended up using her vet and I love her. These dogs have sensitivities to certain vaccines and they need to be staggered, instead of giving some combo shots. The first few nights may be sleepless ones for you, so prepare for that also. These little guys have beautiful coats that knot like crazy, as I found out yesterday when I took my puppy to the groomer. Breeders post on here and I love reading their expert advice. Lots of things to think about-take it slow and have fun with your puppy when he/she gets here. Welcome!

Pancakes is almost 4 months old and is a girl. She is almost all white, except at the tips of her ears there is a light brown color. She's absolutely beautiful and I will be sure to post pics of her as soon as she comes home!

My advice would be to follow your Breeder's advice and schedule for the first few days and then set up your schedule. Keep to the same food. If Pancakes sleeps in a crate stay with that until she is settled in. Don’t and I repeat “Don’t” let her do anything as a puppy you do not want her to do as an adult. Havanese are unbelievably smart and figure you out alot faster than you do them. Have fun and enjoy your new baby.

We just Cooper last Saturday and I can say that yes you will lose some sleep for a day or two. Cooper has been great after the second night. Also you have to be prepared to be very busy. I agree with the crate, food etc. Cooper wouldn't eat the food the breeder gave us but we just got some Artemis he he loves it!! I know how excited you are so good luck and post alot pics!!!

Wow, she sounds like she looks very similar to Pixie, who turned 4 months yesterday. I can't wait to see the pics!

Welcome to the forum and the love of havanese! I think you have received some great advice and use the search tool on top of the forum if there is something in particular you are thinking about.
