Floating rib (or not) concern?

We got an adorable second puppy from our breeder on Saturday and when I was petting her while she slept on my lap on Sunday night I felt a little bump -- it felt like a short rib was poking out. When we took her to her first vet appointment today the vet agreed that they felt abnormal bony protrusions at the level of the 13th thoracic or 1st lumbar vertebra. They said we wouldn't know without an x-ray and that it could be a "floating rib." Two vets felt the puppy and both agreed that it was abnormal. The breeder has agreed to take her back, but we don't know what to do. If she can live a normal life, we are fine because she's very sweet. Has anyone had a puppy with this sort of abnormality?

See if the breeder would pay for the x ray and ask the vet what can be done.

I think Suzi gave you great advice regarding the situation. Check with the breeder.
