tomorrow kodak has to stay home alone...

ok..Kodak has been here since friday night. i have to go to class tomorrow...its 3 hours long!!! and i do not have anyone to come stay/checkup on Kodak while I am gone. thankfully i live right across the street from my school.

the past few days ive been trying to get him use to the ex-pen...which he still whines/screams nonstop for 30mins to a hour.

im worried he is going to hurt himself! do yall have any advice? will he be ok?

have you been practicing good crate/pen habits?

Meaning, you have him go in there, no big deal.
Do not make a bid deal about leaving him, do not even look at him and walk out the door.

Same when you come home, no big hellos, just quietly let him out.

He has to feel confident that you are confident.

Katie, I'm sure others will post about this with better experience than I have. But, in the meantime, as long as she's safe in her pen--no sharp objects, gaps to get her head stuck in, etc, she'll be fine. You might want to check the corners, though, and make sure she couldn't get her head stuck in if she climbed up the corner, then slid down. (I had a puppy do that once--it was awful.) Give her a comfort toy. For three hours she'll survive.

My Tucker would whine and howl at first when I left him in the playpen and he knew I was in the house. He seemed to stop once he knew I was gone--(I'd hang around outside for awhile, listening.)

It is hard, though. Have a good class, and remember to concentrate on the CLASS, not the cute little critter waiting at home for you!

Be sure to remove his collar (I don't mean to offend if this is something you already know, but it's not something I knew when I first got Roxie). Try and give him a good active play session before you leave too.

That's the same ex pen we have and I like it alot. The only problem I ran into is when I hooked her crate to it, Pixie discovered how to jump up onto the crate top (because it's lower that the ex pen). I was amazed she could do it because she's such a midget. Now I nix the crate, and just put her dog bed in there when I have to leave her. It works great and she can't escape. Don't worry-Kodak will be fine and three hours isn't bad. He'll probably nap most of the time anyway.

I think he will be ok. 3 hours is a good amount of time, how old is he? He will also learn that it is no big deal, not is the time to let him know that you will come back. But I agree with gelbergirl when you come back, no fussing. Let him out take him outside to potty and then when he calms down then give him attention!! He will be ok!!
