What Happened Here?

Sofie is 11 1/2 months and has not had a pee accident in the house since she was 4 1/2 months. She has had in the house in the last week!!! The first occurred after a grooming session (professional mobile groomer). I took her out about 30 minutes before groomer was expected to arrive. She had not peed for 5 hours so I fully expected her to go pretty quick. She did not go and I intended to take her out again before groomer came, but she got here early. After her grooming session, the groomer brought her back in... As I was paying and making next appointment, she went upstairs and peed. She rings the bells to go out and did not this time. I was not too distressed over that, because it had been along time since she went and I was not attentive...

The next time was this evening. She was out 2 hours before she had her accident. She was in the kitchen while I was on laptop in the family room (I can see/hear her). She walked down the hallway and when I could no longer hear footsteps, I knew she went upstairs. Now she sometimes does this and lays at the top of the stairs. I do not let but 5 minutes (or less) go by without checking on her. I went to see what she was doing, lo and behold a pee spot at the top of the stairs (different spot than first...first was in our bedroom). She was sniffing at it and looked like she was wondering how that got there. :-)

Why is this happening and what to do?? I know we will not allow her upstairs unattended and maybe not all for awhile... And we were thinking about replacing the carpet. Guess we will put that on hold... Thanks for your advice...

I remember being very happy with Kodi's potty training reliability, and another person on the forum warning me that a lot of them have a "backslide" at around 12 months.

Guess what? She was right. It happened to us too.

We just tightened up the confinement/supervision for a few weeks, and he got back on track very quickly.

Might be backslide... Might be urinary tract infection?

All my guys did that at about a year old! It can be scary but I just went back to square one and they got back on track. It only lasted for a few accidents. My guys are 100 percent reliable now so don't worry
