Dexter's 1st Bath (My Experience)

Dexter had his 1st bath this morning. Sorry no pictures yet. Since this is my first bath I have given a dog in over 10 years, I thought I did amazing good if I do say so myself.

I brushed him out good, them combed. I mean how difficult can it be? His hair is still pretty short.

I filled up the sink about waist high water for Dexter and had the shampoo mixed in the water. Tearless shampoo for puppies. I had him in the water, so the bottom side and feet could get really clean. I did not baby him, we just kept going until the job was done. Rinsed. Dried and and brushed. I put the hair dryer on him for probably less that 2 minutes to dry Dexter off a little and so he could get use to the noise.

He air dried a little. And, he was finished! I just can't believe how SOFT Dexter is after the bath was finished and he was dried. Oh! What a difference! I love it. Dexter was so good, he was a little scared with being wet in the basin, but there was no crying or whimpering.

Once he was finished. I told him that he was such a good boy and we did a few sit commands with a tiny piece of cheese ( He loves cheese now). Cheese is constipating, so don't over do the cheese. We only worked about 2-3 minutes on sit command. Did this, so Dexter would have a treat and commands after the bath to associate something good with a bath.

Oh! What a joy Dexter is to have around me.

Haha...great job!! I wasn't as kind as you! I gave Olive a bath last week when we had a warm day. I am so used to putting our toy poodle in the shower with the extended nozzle head thingy that I didn't even think about putting Olive in the sink. It didn't take long. She squirmed the whole time I dried her with the hair dryer but we got through it. TREATS after for sure.

Our pup, Chico loves the hair dryer. He puts up with baths so he can be blow dried. Yesterday he barked ta the cupboard where I keep the blow dryer until i crated him.We have cold snowy weather so i don't want his skin dried out. He also lays on the heat registers. I bath him in the bathtub as I do our toy poodle.

Did he do the psycho run thing afterwards??? That's why we love bathing Scooter, just to watch him run like a madman when he's drying.

We got home from the being at the beach for 4 days this afternoon and he immediately had a bath. After being in the sand, going outside in a strange place and stopping at fast food places and walking in parking lots he was so yucky! He got a good scrubbing and then ran around the family room for about 15 minutes. Cracks us up every time!

Please post photos, the little guys are so cute when they're bathed!
