Question Early wakenings??

How can I make them stop? Duncan plays hard during the day and naps several times which is normal I believe.
He goes to bed around 11pm and wake around 5.We take him potty and try to put him back in his crate. The thing is when he gets up,he is raring to go!!!He thinks it's play time and the day is about to start.Unfortunately,we can't let him cry it out inthe crate since our daughters don't get up till 7 and we do have neighbors that I am sure would rather not start their day at 5am.
Any suggestions as to how to make him learn that wake up time is not 5am!!
THanks all
Dot

Thats a REAL hard one Dot, my guys have always gotten up early. 6am is the latest I can get them to sleep & I would love nothing more than to take them out, then go back to bed and snuggle - mine want to 1-Potty 2-Eat, and then RLH (Run like He..) There is NO getting them back into bed. Of course after about 1/2 of the RHL and wrestling game, they lay down and sleep for about 1-2 hours - stinkers- now that I am up for good!! If anyone has suggestions on how to get them to go back to bed, I am all ears!!

I am sooo jealous!! Hubby gets them up at 5am on work days as that is when he gets up & takes them out, feeds them etc- which is nice for me, so I get an extra hour of sleep. But on weekends, all I ask for is a 7am wake up call, not 6am. I wonder if I got up in the am & left if they would make a sound since Hubby does the mornings?

Mine play real hard for about an hour before bedtime at 10pm. They will sleep pretty much until I wake them (they sleep in bed with me). Usually we get up between 6:30 and 7am. On my days off, sometimes I get to sleep until 7:30am.

Then, it's up and out the back door. They stay out for about 15 mins, then come in and run around for 1/2 hr. Sometimes they will eat, sometimes not. Then they will nap.

Try playing with him for a while before bedtime and see what happens. I mean really play, like fetch, games that will tire him out.

Thats a great idea - only problem is that I go upstairs to bed at 8pm & read and usually am asleep by 9pm (I am a 9 hour a night gal!) and if the pups stay down with hubby, the only exercise they get is their laughing as they watch him snore on the louge chair We are just not night people, but still would like to sleep a little later on weekends. Last Sat the dogs went to a boarders house for a trial run for 4 hours, they played with another dog all afternoon. Then they got a visit from my sons girlfriend who played with them, then at 7pm our friends came over & brought Logan's brother & the 4 of them played until 10m. - STILL GOT UP AT 6AM!! - AND WE HAD HANGOVERS!!! Not fun - but what are your gonna do??

I see that i am VERY lucky too. Both sleep in the ex-pen & dont make a sound until i get up. They are just sitting wagging their tails waiting for me who does not love to wake up to that every morning!! I have to get up @ 4:45 a.m. weekdays & weekends sleep in until about 6:30-7:30.
I think it would be different if Tripp was alone. He would be crying to get up.
In fact, he is such a baby he would probably be sleeping in the same room with us

Luckily Capote has been really good. We go to bed around 12 to 1 and he gets up like a clock at around 7. He doesn't whimper or cry at all..just moves about his crate and rattles the door a bit. Thats what wakes me up cause his crate is right next to my bed. When I take him outside I let him go potty then bring him back up and put him back in his crate and we both get to sleep about 2 to 3 more hours. (he whines a lil bit about being back in it but then settles right down) When we do get up (these are on my days off btw) we go down for a long walk and I let him banter about the house for a while.

The first night I learned to tell him 'no!' when he was whining or throwing fit in his crate. He stopped after a few of these and doesn't do it anymore. But when it's bedtime it's bedtime. I don't talk to him or anything else.

Gucci won't get up until I get up! I wake up at 5:30 am on the weekdays, and around 8 on the weekends and she will just sleep as long as *I* do, but she sleeps in the bed with me and my husband and won't disturb us unless she has to go potty... In fact, she will even take a afternoon nap when I take a nap!

But if I were you, I would just get up to take Duncan to go to the bathroom and then straight back to bed or the crate. You have some pretty good advice so far, and I'm not sure what to add to it....but wearing him out real good before bed might work I hope so!

Good luck!

I THINK IT'S A MATTER OF SETTING A SCHEDULE AND STICKING TO IT. I HAVE A ROTATING SCHEDULE AT WORK AND NO MATTER WHICH SCHEDULE I'M ON MY HAV WILL WAIT. ONE MORNING I GOT TO SLEEP IN UNTIL 10AM AND COBY JUST WAITED BY THE BED UNTIL I GOT UP. IT TAKE TIME BUT SOONER OR LATER HE WILL GET THE ROUTINE DOWN. JUST SET A SCHEDULE AND STICK TO IT.
