Crate during the day
I'm back with yet another question! Fitz has slept through the night the last two nights. (he's 9 weeks old). I'm so grateful for the sleep, but he's especially energetic in the morning now. This morning we played for two hours, but then I had to leave. He loves his crate (he sleeps in it) and hates his ex pen. He cries and cries in it. This morning I left him in his ex pen, because he was in such a playful mood I thought he might like it better than being put in his crate. His toys and water were in there, as well as a Kong with some treats. When I came home two hours later, he had unlocked the pen and was sitting in the living room! Not okay.
My question is this: because he loves his crate, should I be putting him in that when I need to leave even when he is very playful? I try to tire him out before I leave, but I know that won't always be possible. I don't want him to start to hate his crate. He has a positive association with it now and I don't want it to turn negative, especially when he is just starting to sleep through the night. I will be working on getting him more comfortable in the pen for just a few minutes at a time, then building up. What would you all do? Thanks for the continued advice. I've been reading these boards for a while and have learned so much.
