Excel Deter Coprophagia Treatment

I searched the threads before I posted yet another poop-eating thread but I only found one post that talked about Excel Deter Coprophagia Treatment. Anybody else try it and was it effective. She is becoming very, very tricky and quicker than I am to get it before I do. Is it safe for an almost 16-week pup? Maybe I will just try 1/2 tab starting off. I might try feeding her more too, judging from some posts, it could be hunger...or we have just been blessed with a nasty habit !!!

Excel didn't work for Dugan, but that doesn't mean it won't help you.

I just picked up another kind to try. I can't remember what it is, but I just started it yesterday.

FYI. The Excel Deter isn't doing a thing. She still finds it just as yummy.

Dugan, is the new stuff Mom bought working for you?

Right now I am trying Four Paws Potty Mouth. No luck yet, but I am hoping it may just take a few days to kick in.

I used the commercial products with my first Hav to no avail. The only thing that worked for me was sprinkling some pineapple juice over his kibble. Somehow the acid of the sweet juice makes the feces repulsive to them. (That one still puzzles me, but if it works, it works.)

The other part that was most helpful was not letting him outside to potty alone. I went out with my pooper scooper and scooped it up before it was sitting there tempting him (go figure).

I had one persistent dog that would go after the poop of other dogs (not his own), so I started sprinkling Tabasco sauce on the stool before he came around and let him try to take a bite. That stopped the immediate snacking.

I believe a lot of puppies go through this stage. Pineapple seems to take care of the problem for some. I watch a DW show the other day about this. Cesar would be right there when the dog pooped and have a super good smelling treat. They would smell the poop, then smell the treat and go for the treat every time. He gave them the treat then cleaned up the poop. He said this was to reprogram the mind not to like the smell of the poop. I’m sure this takes time. I would try the pineapple juice or small pineapple segments first. Good luck, hard to take a kiss from a poop eater. Most of us have been there.

I heard about pineapple through "Its me or the dog". I have been trying a chunk a day. I probably should do a chunk more but I'm so nervous with being such a young pup....but this nasty habit has me at my wit's end. I will try anything !!!

You can forego the pineapple itself and just get a can of juice instead. Drizzle some over her food each meal and you can save the rest to go with some coconut rum for those evenings when you want to pull your hair out. LOL

Seriously though - I needed to use the pineapple juice on kibble for two weeks straight to truly break the habit. I quit using it when one of my dogs quit snacking on poop and as soon as I stopped, they started up again. It is a cycle/habit that needs to be broken.

Abby has been better about leaving alone her own poop but she likes cat and duck poop which is harder to control. We have a large property and this makes it hard. We are thinking of fencing in a small area for her so we can keep better control. I tried one of the tablets for the problem early on and it didn't work. I will definitely try the pineapple juice if she starts on her own poop again.
