Rudy is home!

We'll we are going on night three, nights not too bad. He wakes once and eliminates in his pen in our den on main floor and back in the crate in our bedroom upstairs. The crate is small but we found poop 2x in it. Should I worry? We can't divide it any smaller. Other question, he only uses paper to go potty in pen. Too rainy and cold this week and was shivering so I am thinking to wait a week for weather to change. Thoughts?? Is this wrong approach?? Thanks so much for all great advice out there!

I would invest in a cheap little raincoat and sweater if he is shivering. Poor little guy. It has been miserable out there. Definitely keep using the indoor as the main potty but try to dash out whenever the raindrops ease up.

I am not the expert on the indoor potty stuff. Jack isn't trained for it. What are you using for a blanket or cushion in the crate? Is Rudy pushing it aside and then pooping in his crate? Maybe you can wrap up an extra towel and block off a little more of the crate. Make a bumper like they do in a baby's crib.

TTFN,
Pam

Molly soiled her crate sometimes after we first brought her home. I took out some of the blankets I had in there, just left the bare minimum.( I had a bumper and stuffed animals.)
She stopped doing it pretty quickly. I also had to potty her inside a lot at first because she was only 3 lbs. and the weather was just too harsh this winter. Even with a sweater and a coat on she would stand there and shiver. Just take him outside whenever you can. My only problem now is she still thinks it it ok to poop in her expen.

Oops! Conflicting advice! We need a tie breaker.

He is actually doing great now!! Took a small hand towel and rolled it to create a bumper!!! I think his space was too big for his tiny size. He actually goes in crate around 10pm and my husband wakes him at 615 when his alarm goes off in am. Next mission, potty outside only!! No more in ex pen area!! He adores the kids so he is exhausted by nighttime. And this week I am focusing on outdoor pottyy only!!! Thank you all for such great advice!!!! Really helps!!!

So glad to hear he is doing so well.

Here's a tip as you move to outside only:

In the morning, Ginger would go more frequently than later in the day. Not sure if Rudy will do the same thing, but be prepared and be diligent. I hope the weather cooperates and it is an easy week to make the transition.
