Help with Rudy...

Rudy is just about 12 weeks! Time flies. He sleeps great at night. Wakes up in am and eliminates outside. We praise like crazy. Then he eats and poops again about 20-30 minutes later. He either gets crated or playtime. He will eliminate again well before noon. And then the fun starts.... In the afternoon he tends to poop in house. He can be outside for an hour and nothing! Comes in and will use my tile. I have 2 gates up so he has run of my den and part of my kitchen. I would confine him to den but it's an open floor plan. What am I doing wrong? So many accidents later in the day? Should I crate him more? He loves his crate! Escaped the ex pen so we returned it! Any suggestion??? And how often should he be pooping? He poops about 4-6 times a day...seems like a lot! I think he gets too excited when my kids come home and just poops and pees!!! I know he is young so I need to be patient. I just don't want to be doing something that is creating a problem ......

If your puppy does not pee and poop when you take them outside they need to go back in the crate when they come in. Then you take them out again in a little while. After you get the desired result they can come in and have some freedom. You can also leave them out of the crate if you plan on watching them like a hawk so you can see the signs that they have to go out. Good luck!

At 12 weeks you have quite a ways to go. It took Sophie 2 years to be totally reliable. For her, the biggest problem was pooping. She could hold the pee, but just could not get the poop thing. She finally got it!
I'm getting a second hav soon, and I am remembering how hard that puppy stage is and how much patience it takes, but it is so worth it!

Probably providing too much freedom when you can't watch him closely enough. When you have anything else to do other than watch the pup put him in his expen. You want to prevent accidents so you'll need to get him out frequently and confine him when you can't watch him like a hawk. He will get the hang of this eventually but not this young.

He is still young, so be patient. All the advice above is spot on.

4 to 6 poops a day seems high in comparison to my experience with Ginger, but I am sure every dog is different.

Do you feed him at regular times or leaving food out all day? The food may also play a part.

Thanks all!!! I used the crate more often today and had no accidents. Less freedom is def the key!!! I am going to talk to the vet about his food. Def poops a lot for a little guy! I am thinking of switching to honest kitchen.
