Question WHEN to neuter age?

Hi ya-
I am a newbie....
Was wondering what about a baby diaper to prevent getting at the stitches???
I am trying to decide on when to take Harry for his neut, and am afraid to wait too long since I don't want the bad hormones coming in....yet don't want to hurt his bone development either...
Was wondering about what everyone thought?

i am no expert in knowing what age to neuter...so i'll leave that up to someone else to answer.

quite a few folks have successfully used onesies so that the pups can't get at the stitches.

You can probably forget about those diapers! Havs love paper! If he can get to the paper, the paper will get read and shredded by your sweet baby.

I am going to get the No Bite collar.

From what I am reading on the internet....6 months is good. I will probably go between 6-7 months. I just hope Dexter does not pick up any bad habits between that time.

Brady and Dugan were both neutered at 6 months. Both had no idea anything had happened to them by the next day. I did not need to use an e-collar or onesie or anything else with either of them. They both had disolving stitches and did not mess with them. I know a lot of people use onesies, so you can try that if you have any problems. I see you live in my area. Welcome. Keep your eyes out for playdates in the future. I am getting a fence in the Spring and will probably have a playdate here in the summer. Laurie always has a large playdate in the Spring in NJ too.

Karen,

I was wonder if Brady and Dugan are pretty calm dogs? Or are they typically the Hav crazy type?

I know if I buy the collar for the neuter, I probably WILL NOT HAVE TO USE it, but if I don't, then I will be wishing I had that collar.

I will be asking about the dissolving stitches though!

Was Brady and Dugan on medications after the surgery?

Todd was neutered on his 6 month b-day and did really well.
He had started lifting his leg outside and I wanted to stop him before he tried it inside.
My main challange was keeping him calm afterwards.
We used a onsie to keep him away from his sutures and never had a problem with it.
His "dissolving" stitches didn't completely disolve on their own and two months after the surgery he had to have them snipped off because they were starting to get infected.
Other than that...no problems..it healed beautifully and you can't even see the scar now.
