Red face We welcomed Benny into our lives yesterday!

On Saturday, we took the drive to pick up our pup, we have affectionately named Benny. It was so wonderful picking him up. He immediately took to us, gave us lots of kisses, and had happily sat on my lap for the two hour ride back home.

When we got into our home, he sat down and looked at us for a bit, until I passed over a stuffed toy he is currently happily chewing on. We put food in his bowl and water from the breeder for him and he ate everything right away. This pup has no shortage of an appetite (might be the reason he was the biggest of the litter), and already he knows which closet we keep his food. We're only feeding him 1/4 cup 3 times a day.

I wanted to start training him on the Ugodog right away and kept putting him on it to go but nothing worked. I then asked my husband to pass over some newspapers, and as soon as I put them down on the Ugodog, he used it right away! You could almost see the relief out of his face! I brushed him last night and he was so calm during the brushing.

The first night was not bad. Kept him in his crate close to my bed, and when he made a noise, I would show him I was there by putting my hand in his cage. I brought him downstairs at 4:30AM when I heard a few more cries. He immediately went to the bathroom and I brought him back into his crate which he slept in until 7:30 when we got up.

When I took him out of the crate in the morning, it was like being greeted by the sweetest, happiest puppy ever! We played and he went again on the Ugodog, I thought we were making progress!

The rest of the day though, he's had accidents as soon as we look away for a second. Literally, I go to open the fridge and get water, and he's peed on the tile right next to me lol. Obviously they're going to happen, but whenever I put him on the Ugodog, he sits on it and stares at you with sad little eyes. I wonder if he's having anxiety from me watching?

Otherwise, we took him for some leash training and he did really well! Everyone stopped to give him some loving and he even enjoyed a quick trip to Trader Joe's. That pooped him out and he slept for a good while.

We also stepped out for 7 minutes to go to CVS and pick up Fathers Day cards and left him in our little set up for him. Essentially he gets our kitchen, which isn't large, but fully tiled and perfect to keep him in when we stepped out. We came back and heard a little bit of crying which we were impressed it wasn't a whole lot louder but when we opened the door he had accidents on the floor. He also stepped in his pee so I went to wash his feet and blow-dry. He was so good during the blow-dry, it didn't seem to bother him at all.

I've attached some pictures for everyone to enjoy! We love his sweet and lovable personality and SO happy to have him in our lives finally.

QUESTION! How long did it take you to train your pups inside on a similar solution like the Ugodog? Any tricks for me? I'm very patient and know it doesn't happen over night, but would love to know how long it took for it to click.

I work from home most days but there will be times he will have to be alone. Tomorrow i'll start working on the separation issue, because he will not leave one of our sides at all times already and i'm worried it's going to be hard on him!

I crate trained Molly for housebreaking so I can't give any advice on the Ugodog. However I would say that maybe you are giving your puppy too much area by leaving him in the kitchen when you leave. I would put him in the crate when you go out or put your Ugodog in an expen that is smaller than your kitchen area. Good luck.

We had some more progress last night and this morning with him using the UgoDog. I put some wet paper towels with his scent on them under the grates and he's been successful

He slept through the night and i'm such a proud mother!

Benny is 12 weeks old tomorrow. If you're in Arlington, we might just run into each other!

I'm at Ashburn, but we do go to Arlington a lot, for dim sum @ China Garden.
Prince is 1 days younger than Benny, and he's going to turn 12 weeks on Wednesday.

I haven't had Chinese from there yet, but thanks for the recommendation! How has your pup been doing with separation anxiety, especially since they're the same age?

We used to go to dimsum and trader Joe's @ Saturday around noon time before we have Prince, and now I have to think about the time, don't want to leave him alone for more than 3 hrs in this age.
He is doing pretty good when I say ByeBye to him, I didn't take him with me in the morning when I take my daughter to School, and I put him back to the crate, and say byebye. he usually sit there and play with his antler. And will take him out for his business and let him run for a little while when I back home.
He did poops a lot(4times a day) ,and I guess because of the kibbles. and how about Benny?

Thank you Molly!

Your pup sounds like he's doing great so far. I'm working on Benny, leaving him for 5-7 minutes at a time. He cries, but it seems to be less dramatic now...

Benny is SO cute

We brought Truman he at 9 weeks and we called those first 2 weeks "peepalooza". Because he peed all.the.time. After 2 weeks though he really started getting it. We are using a bell for him to ring and we do crate him whenever we are gone. The ex-pen wasn't working for us so we have put it away for now. My advice is be consistent with whatever method you use and I think after a couple of weeks you will see results. Truman also poops 4 times a day still--first thing when he wakes, after morning food, and twice in the evening.
