On Saturday, we took the drive to pick up our pup, we have affectionately named Benny. It was so wonderful picking him up. He immediately took to us, gave us lots of kisses, and had happily sat on my lap for the two hour ride back home.
When we got into our home, he sat down and looked at us for a bit, until I passed over a stuffed toy he is currently happily chewing on. We put food in his bowl and water from the breeder for him and he ate everything right away. This pup has no shortage of an appetite (might be the reason he was the biggest of the litter), and already he knows which closet we keep his food. We're only feeding him 1/4 cup 3 times a day.
I wanted to start training him on the Ugodog right away and kept putting him on it to go but nothing worked. I then asked my husband to pass over some newspapers, and as soon as I put them down on the Ugodog, he used it right away! You could almost see the relief out of his face! I brushed him last night and he was so calm during the brushing.
The first night was not bad. Kept him in his crate close to my bed, and when he made a noise, I would show him I was there by putting my hand in his cage. I brought him downstairs at 4:30AM when I heard a few more cries. He immediately went to the bathroom and I brought him back into his crate which he slept in until 7:30 when we got up.
When I took him out of the crate in the morning, it was like being greeted by the sweetest, happiest puppy ever! We played and he went again on the Ugodog, I thought we were making progress!
The rest of the day though, he's had accidents as soon as we look away for a second. Literally, I go to open the fridge and get water, and he's peed on the tile right next to me lol. Obviously they're going to happen, but whenever I put him on the Ugodog, he sits on it and stares at you with sad little eyes. I wonder if he's having anxiety from me watching?
Otherwise, we took him for some leash training and he did really well! Everyone stopped to give him some loving and he even enjoyed a quick trip to Trader Joe's. That pooped him out and he slept for a good while.
We also stepped out for 7 minutes to go to CVS and pick up Fathers Day cards and left him in our little set up for him. Essentially he gets our kitchen, which isn't large, but fully tiled and perfect to keep him in when we stepped out. We came back and heard a little bit of crying which we were impressed it wasn't a whole lot louder but when we opened the door he had accidents on the floor. He also stepped in his pee so I went to wash his feet and blow-dry. He was so good during the blow-dry, it didn't seem to bother him at all.
I've attached some pictures for everyone to enjoy! We love his sweet and lovable personality and SO happy to have him in our lives finally.
QUESTION! How long did it take you to train your pups inside on a similar solution like the Ugodog? Any tricks for me? I'm very patient and know it doesn't happen over night, but would love to know how long it took for it to click.
I work from home most days but there will be times he will have to be alone. Tomorrow i'll start working on the separation issue, because he will not leave one of our sides at all times already and i'm worried it's going to be hard on him!
