Got my new lil girl this weekend!

Hello everybody! I joined the forum a few months ago reading up on the breed, my oldest daughter has a hav but I wanted one for myself My name is Nicole and my little sidekick name is Darla!! Whew I have forgotten how cute this lil fur kids are! When I saw her I melted lol it was instant love here folks!

Im not going to lie Im exhausted! I have gotten all the essentials for her and I do have an expend crate inside (wire one) and boy does she not like the expend or the crate. I have been putting her in the crate in my bedroom on my nightstand and she seems good with that. Her schedule is bedtime 10 pm she may simper about 12 or so I put my fingers in she goes back to sleep. 2 am 2 nights in a row she cries out I take her potty(don't play or anything just take her to her spot outside she pottys then back in crate, then up I mean up for the morning at 6 am! Take her to potty again and then I give her breakfast then we play for a bit then back outside to do her business! Its now 815 am and we have played and now she's laying here napping! Should I put her in the crate for these lil naps or in her bed I have for her? She follows me everywhere Im afraid to even go clean or get dressed urghhh..She is 11 weeks tomorrow and such a sweet lil thing and oh she's vocal she barks to get my attention!

Darla has had one lil accident guess it was my fault yesterday in kitchen while I was unloading the dishwasher I quickly picked her up and said huh ohh lets go outside to potty so I rang her bells and to her to her spot hoping she would finish but guess not lol. Then quickly cleaned up the potty without her seeing. I have been watching her like a hawk literally! I don't want to put any pee pads down but so far so good. My question is I have to go to the dentist this week so I know in the expend she will go but do I need to put her toys and water and a pee pad down? The pee pad freaks me out because won't that be like telling her go ahead pee on the floor? SO Im confused...

Also would love to post pics of Darla but uncertain how to do so from my iPhone? Im not that computer savy I need my older kids here to help urghh they know all this stuff! So when Darla is napping like now beside me on the floor do I put her in her crate or bed for these kinds of naps? Im a stay home wife so Im hoping we can get this training down and crate training down pretty quick like next 4 to 5 months any tips would be helpful! One more question when she barks and barks do I ignore her or say no? Im hoping its puppyhood I didn't think Havs were big barkers my oldest daughters never barked like this! I mean the breeder said she was vocal and will let you know what she wants but wow this is nuts lol!! Something so little with such a high pitch bark cracks me up! Thanks everybody please tell me Im not the only one going through this and it does get better?!

Congratulations on getting your new puppy! I used a crate and an expen with Molly. I never put the crate in the pen because I did not want an indoor potty area. I would put her in the crate during the day if she did not go potty outside. She would stay in there and then we would try again in a little while . After she pottied outside she would get freedom in the house, but I still watched her like a hawk. I would also put her in there while I took a shower or if I had to go out. Your little one will be fine in there while you go to the dentist. I used the expen to give Molly more freedom than the crate if I didn't want to be watching her every second, for example while I was cooking dinner. I used to also put her food and water dishes in there, some toys and a little bed. She would play in there, take naps, and she could still see me. If you are patient they will get used to being in the crate and pen. Don't worry, it will get much easier down the road. Just be consistant and don't give her too much freedom in the house too soon or you will have potty accidents.

Ha Patience your right about that!!! Whew she's a little pistol and sassy thing! Follows me everywhere but she is such a good girl! Im hoping she will start to sleep in her crate thru the night soon, she is 11 weeks today and last 3 nights like a lil alarm clock barks out to go potty at 2 am but goes right back in crate up at 6 this am 6:10 am lol!

I appreciate any tips you have to offer!!

.

I've only had one Hav puppy and he is still only about 10 weeks, so I'm far from experienced. But what I found worked from the first night is to take him outside to 'take care of business' just before we go to sleep, about 11pm. Even if he's been in his crate sleeping since 9pm, I still get him up to go out at 11pm. He goes right back to sleep afterwards and sleeps through until around 6:30.

Hey Adorable Zeke! Well Im proud to say my lil Darla slept thru the night in her crate We play play til bedtime take her to potty then about 10-1030 pm we put her in her crate and she's out! But since last Saturday til this Tues we would put her in at 10 pm then 2 am she would cry so I took her to potty outside then back in crate up at 6 am! Last night finally did our routine but slepted till 6 am awww maybe just maybe we our on our way LOL!! Lets keep in touch our babies seem to be about the same age!! Darla is learning to sit and learning to go potty and poo when we say go, I have been using a clicker for her potty and "sit" lol... I stay home all day so I set my timer to go out to potty every hour I didn't want to use any pee pads except when I have to step out etc... Good luck with Zeke ha I saw his pics I need to figure out how to post pics I have tons LOL

Thanks
Nicole and Darla

Welcome Nicole and Darla.
Yes, it is exhausting, but there will be such a payback with wonderful bonding and a sweet dog who has been properly cared for and trained.
Scheduled naps and routine are key (for both of you!)
