pting from florida

Am presently in the market to purchase a Havanese puppy. Everything I have read suggests that I find a reparable breeder even before picking out the pup. Iíve been investigating Royal Flush Havanese and Twin Havanese from Florida. They both claim good ratings, 20 years in the business, all health and genetic concerns addressed. Both sell puppies in the $2500 range. So are they really both equal....have seen some negative reports on Royal Flush, but itís usually followed by an explanation from the breeder ďHollyĒ disclaiming what the buyer said. Who do you believe....any comments on these 2 breeders would be appreciated! ptt

Royal Flush operates both in RI and FL. If you do a search here on the forum (or you can search google "Havanese Forum Royal Flush") you'll see some responses. Someone here did get a puppy from them and if they're around I'll let them answer as to their experience.

Talking to reputable breeders in NE, I was universally warned away from Royal Flush. You'll notice that they always have puppies available or close to it. Good breeders don't have that many litters because they can't devote the time needed to that many puppies. And you want puppies who are being raised in a household seeing and hearing all that goes on. Havanese are very social dogs (that's why we love them!) and those first weeks are critical to a well socialized puppy. Henry's breeder did so much for him and his littermates.

The price Royal Flush charges is comparable to what you'll pay to a good breeder who has actually put the time and effort into their puppies. Puppies from reputable breeders are in demand so you will probably have to get on a wait list but the wait will be worth it.

I don't know anything about Twin Havanese.

Good luck on your search. It's definitely a great idea to do your research beforehand as you're doing.

There is an article here on the forum which is helpful: what to look for in a reputable breeder.

Kate is right. RUN don't walk away from Royal Flush. If you are comparing this "breeder" with the Twins Havanese, it makes me worry even more about that one. Royal Flush is really just short of a puppy mill specializing in Havanese.

We have a neighbor who got her dog from Royal Flush Havanese. She's not happy. The dog is so ill-socialized that she has to pick her up whenever people approach to avoid aggressive behavior such as nipping.

Here's a Better Business Bureau review from ...

The merchant has multiple locations (RI and FL) and by her own admission has 50 dogs (including puppies) at just one location at one time. Unfortunately, this is not considered a "Home Breeding" atmosphere and by adding other locations and additional dogs to the mix, she clearly cannot deliver a home-bred puppy to us.

I just went on the Twins website and I find it sorely lacking. When you click on some of the icons they donít work and there is no information on health testing. The only icons that work are show dogs and nursery. I am sceptical.

Just get a dog from Tom King on this forum and be done with it. There are several King dogs on this forum and they are exceptional. You will have to travel to South Carolina to pick up your puppy but the trip will be worth it!
