Hi, I'm Janice from Madison Heights, Va. I just got our Havanese girl last Wednesday.

My 9 week old Havanese girl has been with my husband and I five days. She has been very active running and playing up until yesterday, Sunday. She slept a lot more yesterday and wasn't her playful self. "Bella" weighs 2.4 lbs. She didn't eat but a few bites of her dry dog food we bought where we purchased her. About an hour ago Bella vomited a little. She is sleeping again, its 1:26 a.m. Monday. I'm very concerned about her because she was so listless all day and evening Sunday. I'm wondering what can be causing her to be sick. I will take her to our Vet today, if she doesn't perk up. Thanks for any advice. We bought her from a reputable pet shop. Thanks for any advice.

I would definitely see the vet. She is so tiny and and can get hypoglycemia from not eating. Dogs also throw up bile when their tummies are empty. I would bring a stool sample to the vet to check for parasites. Pet shop puppies are especially at risk due to their living conditions. I hope she feels better soon.

Take her to vet immediately. At that size, things can go bad fast.

Please take her to the vet immediately! Dehydration is a huge concern for a small dog. Sounds like she eats dry food too so that is even worse because they get no hydration at all from it. My friendís dog got parvo even though it had been vaccinated and this has to have immediate treatment. Donít take any chances. Go to the emergency vet if necessary.

I hope everything is okay and you get to the vet. Our puppy didn’t eat hardly at all in the first 24 hours but wasn’t sick or vomiting. But the stress of coming to a new home CAN temporarily reduce their appetite. Most of the time you want to get them to the vet within 72 hrs of coming home anyway. Hope all is well. Parvo is a concern at that age.

Please let us know how your pup is doing and what the vet said. Hope all is well.

Welcome, and thinking of you and sweet Bella. Shama weighed 1.9 pounds the first time we took her to the vet, at 10 weeks old ...
