Hi all, we have a 1 year old male Havanese, sully. He is the love of our lives and we’re going to get him a sibling! We’re very confused if we should get a male or female. Same breed. Any thoughts?

You should talk to your breeder about the personality of your guy and have your breeder help you choose the best personality match for him! Boys usually get along with boys OR girls. Girls USUALLY get along with boys and are sometimes "discriminating" about "which" girls they get along with. LOL!

In general, though, Havanese are a gregarious breed, and most get along with each other. Your breeder can help you make the right choice! I have a boy and two girls and they all get along fine. The girls sometimes get in arguments, but not much. The boy ALWAYS stays out of it! LOL!

Most people I know with two dogs have two males or a male and a female. I know someone who had two female Welsh Corgis and they fought constantly and eventually they had to keep them in separate areas of the house. Not sure if this had anything to do with their breed. They were both spayed too.

There are lots and lots of people with two female Havanese that get along just fine. But I do think that two girls are more likely to snark at each other at least occasionally. In general, Havanese tend to get along with other dogs pretty well, and if you talk to the breeder about your wishes, they can, most often, help you with a compatible fit, regardless of genders.

We were looking for a boy for my Lu. The breeder contacted me once the pups were born and she has 2 boys. While I like the look of one pup, the temperament would be a disaster. So we are getting a new pup in 2 weeks because he is sweet, and cuddly.

Pup one is a rascal and isnt a big fan of snuggling.

Pup two- the one we are getting, is more chilled and more snuggly.
