Long Time lurker

So I have been reading posts on here for years. I'm pretty sure I used to post under the name "fillerupmac" but that login is no longer valid.

up until a month ago we had two Havanese for almost 10 years. We lost the younger one to cancer. Now we are in the process of finding a replacement, and new buddy for our 10 year old Hav, Jasper.

I came across a website that appeared to be "to good to be true"! Advertising puppies for much less than $1000. I'm pretty sure it's a scam, and I would like to report it here, if that is permitted.

This is a great forum, with much useful information, that has helped us over the years. Here is a photo of our two - Louie, the black and white has crossed the bridge, Jasper, the brindle, is 10 but still acts like 2! Both came from a breeder who has since retired. Havs are the GREATEST dogs!

Al

Welcome back, Al! Unfortunately, there are a lot of "puppy mill scammers" out there! I suppose it doesn't hurt to mention the name, but I think it might be more useful to tell people how you recognized that it wasn't a good breeder!

I am sorry for the loss of your little guy, and wish you good luck in finding a new pal!

Thanks -

Knowing some forum admins can be picky about what you can or shouldn't post - are there some guidelines somewhere I should read first? And what forum section would be best for such a post???

The website looks good at first, but then there are "clues" that lead me to believe it's phony - like registration date (two weeks), web host (India), security, lack of contact info, and a really really good price!

This forum is sort of “the wild west”. It is owned by a company, and admins only seem to get involved if a member complains about something! LOL! In general, our “community rules” are “be respectful of each other.” If you aren’t, an admin won’t get involved, but other members are likely to tell you off. LOL!

As far as post subject matter is concerned, sale posts are not allowed and will be reported and removed. ESPECIALLY any posts selling puppies. Breeders are allowed to share photos and announcements of their litters ONLY if all puppies are spoken for.

I think there is a section specifically for puppies or breeders or something, but people really read everything. The forum isn’t all that busy. Don’t worry about it too much. Choose someplace that seems reasonable, and you’ll do fine!

Oh, and those are good clues that you mentioned. So is that price. No way would a good quality puppies from a reputable breeder be sold for that price.

I don't know why anyone would buy a dog without calling and talking with the breeder, then travel there to meet them and check out the home, in addition, to checking references. Check to see the the breeder is listed with the AKC.

Therefore, I see no need to post the breeders name but don't have a problem if you feel it's important.

Thanks Mikki.

Crested Butte huh? That's a beautiful town, along with a great ski area! And only a few mile by singletrack to Aspen!

I have owned a Computer Store in CS for 40 (yes really) years, and will retire in one month. You would not believe the number of people that come in to our store, having fallen to one of the many many computer scams out there!! That's why I may seem more concerned than usual.
here are some hints:
This website did not have ANY contact information, including LOCATION, but you could send an email.
They advertised havanese puppies for $700.
They had coupons for FREE shipping.
No parents listed
Testimonials (could easily be faked)
Excellent health guarantees
You can determine a website HOST by going to www.whois.com and searching the website name - in this case located in India.
Website created in July 2020.
More web information protected by "security"

If you wish to see the webpage for yourself, do a search for "Do" and the little guys in the Despicable movies (min.... just one) and the breed of our dogs. Just PLEASE DON'T FALL for their scheme!

WELL... FUNNY thing about that... Because there IS a long-time Havanese "breeder" in RI, Royal Flush, that has a VERY bad reputation in the Havanese world, and THEY claim to be the only Havanese breeders to be approved by the BBB in RI. How likely is it that there are two with the same claim? (they also breed out of Florida now)
