Good breeders in Central NJ. Willing to travel to get a healthy puppy from a great br

The more I read about breeders the more nervous I get about finding a good breeder. Please help me find A reputable breeder in the north east region. Thank you

I think most people seeking a puppy as a family pet feel that way. I did! It seems like this simple thing, but once you start learning about it, itís a lot to figure out. Youíve come to the right place, though, because there have been a lot of active members in your region. A good place to start for referrals is your local Havanese club, so maybe someone can direct you to the right one.

She is a forum member here and has hosted many events and fundraisers for dogs.
She'll know what to tell you.

Please, FOR SURE take Royal Flush off your list. I don't know the others. Oops, sorry. I misspoke. Quickstep is fine.

Getting a Havanese from a good, reputable dealer is a critical. Don't try to short cut this important step. You may even have to travel further than the breeders on your list above. I don't recognize any of the breeders on your list, other than a couple who are not recommended. Don't purchase a Havanese from an unknown breeder. Purchase a puppy from a breeder who has established some GOOD street credibility.

A dog show is often not a good place to look for a Havanese puppy. As EvaE says, contact your local Havanese Club for recommendations. Havanese are becoming a very sought after breed right now as their reputation and desirability (and price) continue to grow.

My priceless bundle of fur is fast asleep next to me right now. Like it or not, he has made himself an essential member of our family. Everybody loves Ricky and he reciprocates. Even people in our neighborhood call out to him by name when we go walking together - they have no idea what my name is. Last night on our walk a neighbor stopped her car in the middle of the street and said, "if you ever want me to take Ricky for a walk, I would be happy to do it." I thanked her and assured her I would keep her in mind (but that ain't never going to happen!) The only other people that I allow to walk Ricky are Momi or one of our two daughters.

Good hunting.

After doing research and starting to know what to look for I was thinking maybe Royal flush wasn’t good. I put them on the list to see what you guys would say. WOW!! They are the first site that comes up in my search engine. And, I thought they were great before I knew what I was looking for. So sad there are so many people like that. 😞
So, Laurie from Hillsborough havanese said Harmony Havanese in Wayne, New Jersey was good by me. They are over a year wait. And Laurie is over a year and a half wait. But, I definitely want a good breeder.

The year wait will pass very quickly. You will have plenty of time to research the breed (especially on HF) and then know exactly what to expect.

The other thing is, you will be on good breeders radar. It is surprising how often something turns up in the meantime - a buyer backs out for what ever reason, a puppy rescue becomes available, or another good breeder has exactly what you are looking for. The word will be out on the street that you are a serious buyer looking for just the right dog. Just last week a third party was telling us about a rescue in a town (California) about 30 minutes from us. An elderly gentleman's wife had just passed away. They had two dogs and he can only keep one, he is looking for a good home for the other, perhaps even visit once in a while. I'll tell you I am very tempted if it weren't for the fact that I am recovering from surgery myself and it will be several months before I could be responsible for a second dog. The timing is just not right for us. But this is just an example of how things (the perfect dog) drop in your lap out of the blue!

We are the third owner of Ricky (from Texas, to Washington, to California). We found him when he was 9 months old after a hot tip and after being persistent and patient in our search (about 6 months). We drove almost 1000 miles to pick him up. I don't know why the first two owners ever wanted to let him go.......but I'm glad they did. He is a high quality Havanese. We have been a happy family for 6 years now.

A year wait is pretty standard. You MAY find that you get moved up if you stay in touch with the breeder, and someone else drops out, but a year is NOT an uncommon wait.
