What is the difference between Cosequin and Dasuquin?
Response from Nutramax Laboratories: Dasuquin represents new technology in the arena of joint health support supplements. Dasuquin contains optimal amounts of glucosamine hydrochloride and chondroitin sulfate ingredients that are present in Cosequin, as well as the addition of a potent ingredient called ASU (avocado/soybean unsaponifiables). Cell studies have shown that the combination of glucosamine/chondroitin sulfate plus ASU works better than glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate alone at inhibiting the expression of several agents involved in cartilage breakdown. The cost should be about the same for either product at a maintenance basis.

Additional Info: Dasuquin is Nutramax Labs newest joint health product and can be purchased through veterinarians, whereas Cosequin can be purchased at stores like Costco, Petco, Walmart, online, etc.

Just O'paws Fundamental Vitality and Coconut Oil. I sometimes switch the coconut for fish oil. Toby was taking fish oil for his SA and I have a lot of the capsules left (snip tips) so I give them to Bumi

Kodi gets probiotics daily too. The one recommended by my vet is Jarrodophilus, which is available in a refrigerated case in the supplement department of Whole Foods.

According to her, some of the ones sold for pets do not contain the specific bacteria that you want to encourage in their gut. Many also don't have enough in the recommended serving size.

Bella turns 7 in July and a last winter she began getting Nutritional Yeast Flakes, vegan--kind of like brewer's yeast. And she gets the Cosequin and pro biotics. Her coat is beautiful from the Nutritional Flakes but I'm hoping it helps with her allergies.

So all three get a Dasuquin every day.

I have a question are there any medication you can give your older havanese for rheumatoid arthritis that doesn't have side effects? I have my Kashi who is 8.5 that has arthritis on the back and rear legs. He's on 5mg of prednisone and 100mg twice a day of gabapentin.

Rheumatoid Arthritis (which is an auto-immune disease, and not age dependent) is pretty rare in dogs. Are you sure he doesn't have osteoarthritis?

In any case, My performance dogs take Glycoflex daily, as suggested by my vet to prevent joint deterioration. Don't know if it would help with your guy, but it couldn't hurt!

Also, my elderly cat had extremely bad arthritis in her hips and spine. I thought we'd have to put her down because of it. A started taking her to a vet that does alternative therapies, rehab and sports medicine. The local vet had just given us painkillers for her, that just made her sleepy and lose her balance. (It might have been gaba... I can't remember for sure) The rehab vet started treating her with low-level laser. She went from falling over and not being able to get up on the couch, to scaling the 4' fence around our backyard in a few months of treatment! She ended up living 3 years after I thought she'd need to be put down as a result of her treatments!!!

I also wanted to mention that this thread is almost 4 years old. You might get more responses if you post a new thread!!!

I give Scout Cosequin daily. He doesn't have any joint problems now, but because he had two ACL surgeries I thought it might be a good idea. I first purchased Glycoflex, but Scout would not swallow it.

We took Shama to a specialist after our vet told us she had luxating patellas, and she recommended glucosamine and fish oil. So that's what Shama takes. (She runs agility.)

Yes, Kodi used to be on fish oil too, but then we found out he's allergic to fish! So that's gone now!
