I just read on one of the lists that Oprah will be doing a story on Puppymills on April 4th. Here is what I found online regarding it.http://www2.oprah.com/tows/coming/tows_come_main.jhtml
I am sure it will be very difficult to watch, but it is great that she is getting the word out.

Thanks for posting that. I'm sure it'll be very interesting and educating
to watch. A tear-jerker too. I hate seeing dogs in those tiny, filthy cages that you always see on t.v.
So sad and very disappointing that no one cares
enough to do anything to put a stop to these puppymills!

Oh, I am so glad to see this. Oprah has such an influence on people and luckily she chooses to excercise that in positive ways overall. This is HUGE for the world of puppy mills. We have a petstore in town that is a really, really nice store, but they still have dogs for sale. They treat them well while in the store (and often employees take the pups home at night), but it still rubs me wrong when I see litters with no background info in there. Some they show more info (e.g. photographs of the parents and including AKC registration, but many are mystery pups...) Sad

It's on April 4th, according to Oprah's site. I HOPE it's an eye-opener for the general public. I get soooooo tired, frustrated... no, TICKED off at people who still buy from pet stores that buy from mills! Drives me nuts!!

There was an article in our paper the other day about how our local shelters are bursting at the seams. One man bought a 2 mth. old Lab at a pet store for his wife, to cheer her up because she was depressed (huh?). After 4 nights of puppy crying, they couldn't take it anymore and the pup ended up at a shelter. Can you believe it?!! GRRRRRRRR! Shelter said that if the Lab didn't find a home within 8-10 days, they'd have to put it down. Unreal. People just don't THINK!

Don't get me started............. sorry!!

I hope it's a good show. I love Lisa Ling though. She's a fantastic reporter.

Is Lisa Ling the one doing the show? She usually does really good reporting.

This should be very interesting and I hope lots of people get to watch. Oprah seems to have such influence and mass appeal that it would be a wonderful opportunity to get the word spread. Unfortunatly I have heard from a pretty reliable source her Goldens came from horrible conditions/puppy mill. I'm wondering if possibly they found out the death of the one dog of Oprah's was due to something that would have been caught by a reputable breeder and so now she is crusading against bad breeding practices. We can only hope, that would be wonderful!

I heard within the past couple of weeks that Oprah's beloved cocker spaniel Sophie died. I can't imagine how hard it will be for her to do a show on puppy mills so soon after losing her baby.

This should be an interesting show. I hope I dont miss it. It amazes me how nieve people still are or that they just dont care about puppymills and pet stores. Back yard breeders contribute a lot to the scenerio too. All the puppies in a pet store are from either puppymills or back yard breeders. They sell their dogs and puppies they couldnt sell on their own to brokers. It's all correlated and they all feed off each other. Sicko's
