This is the little man I'm going to pick up in just a few days. This pic was taken at his vet appt on tuesday. He doesn't seem as fluffy as most puppy pics you see. Am I just being paranoid? I can try and add the original pic I got of him when he was probably 6 weeks if that would help. He was 8 weeks on monday. I was worried about him being a shavanese, but I think I've seen enough pics to think that he isn't. Do you think he's just scrawny?

Please o havanese guru's :hail:...talk to me off the ledge of paranoia that somethings wrong!:suspicious:

He's not a fluffy as a lot of puppies, but there is quite a bit of variability. He is definitely NOT a short hair, or he wouldn't have that fluffy facial hair. It's really impossible to evaluate his structure, even a LITTLE from this angle and in this photo. The person taking the photo used a wide angle lens, probably a cell phone, and very close, which makes his head look HUGELY out of proportion to his body. But I can't believe he looks like that in real life... It's the camera angle. Also, he's nervous about being at the vet and being up on the table, away from his siblings. (and having a camera stuck in his face) As a result, he's got his ears plastered to his head, making him look ear-less... which I'm SURE he's not! :)

If you want to have even a clue about his over-all structure, he has to be sideways to the camera, and standing. You can also get a better idea of structure with "soaped" pictures, but you need someone who really knows what they are doing to take good soaps... It's NOT easy, and many breeders don't bother. (though I won't buy a dog WITHOUT soaps)

That all said, a puppy can definitely have a lighter coat as a puppy, and still have a beautiful coat as an adult. here are photos of my Kodi, the day I brought him home at 11 weeks, and as an adult. He looked significantly different from many of the very "fluffy puppies" on the forum. (he also had HUGE ears for his size, but he grew into them! ;) ) But he has a gorgeous adult coat, and much easier to maintain than many of the dogs with really dense undercoats.

He looks like a normal Havanese puppy to me in those pic's! He might have what they call a "slow coat", which just means that it takes a bit longer for his coat to attain full lenght. My Panda has a slower coat, as did both of her parent. She's got plenty of coat, it's just not as long as many other dogs her age. But it will be, I'm sure, just as both of her parents' were. Her sire didn't show a lot until he was 2, but then went on to be in the top 15 Havanese in the country.

He is absolutely adorable! Love his colors! It looks like he will have a silky coat like my Truffles. Scout had a very soft thick coat from the time her was born.😊 Truffles coat was very fine and silky. It took about a year before her coat changed. Now her coat is silky, but much thicker.

He is not a Shavanese in my opinion. He looks like a normal Hav puppy. He is very sweet. He is a little tri color. Love the little tan eyebrows. Your second post of the older pics shows him better than the vet picture. Karen's description is right, a bad angle and to close so creates distortion.
He's actually younger in the other 2 pics!! :surprise:
