Okay so I admit, I have shoved Dasher into a Belle bag a few times but in this weather, I won't leave him in the car and sometimes I do need to run in for a few minutes to somewhere he isn't really welcomed. So this weekend, I went to a show and was on the lookout for a bag for Dash but if DH found out, I would be in big trouble. Well there was a vendor there with about every kind of bag you can think of half off (still a lot of them were a lot more than I wanted to spend!) But the nice thing is she got them all down for me and I was able to see the features of each.

I think some of the problems of finding a good Hav bag is our dogs are probably too heavy to be in a bag. Another one I found was that with our havs being longer than taller, the bags are made for square dogs- maltese, yorkie, chi's etc. So you have to get a really huge bag. Well I found one with everything I was looking for and more. The Celletei. I wanted a bag that comfy fit, was easy to carry, had a spot when I wanted Dash to be able to have his head out he could. This bag also has a seat belt spot, a water bottle holder, a removable bottom where you can insert cooling or heating pads, tons of compartments, and a lot of mesh areas. And the best of all the mesh is printed where it hides the dog. This is the el cheap version and it was half off so I only paid $30 for it. The vendor said it is designed by a Japanese woman who was flying back and forth with her dog so she really had to think of everything. We have only used it for a day but I will try and update if I am still as happy with it.

Isn't Dash cute with his head sticking out!

Did Dash try to scratch his way out when you had it all closed up?

How long is the bag? Dash looks so big compared to the bag, but I forget how Havs like to curl up and sleep.

So glad you found one! $30.00 was a bargain!

 $30?! You lucky ducky. I'd love to have a bag that fits Tori nicely for the very reasons you stated. Unfortunately, I haven't found any that I like the looks of and fit both her and my pocketbook :(

Kathy- you always have great advice but it isn't me that doesnt listen it is the voice of Jim "we don't need more dog stuff..." But I really did need this and the crate cooling pad I bought this summer has been probably my most used new item-Jim will admit that one. Still on my list in the carrier for the back seat of the car you told me about. That would be so easy when transporting all 3 of them. But this one will be great for Dasher's obedience and agility class and errands. While my house is closer to the city, I am in the middle of no where and running into target, etc. after class is ideal.

Leslie- that was my problem too. I have so many bags for Belle and some work for some things but not well for others. But the one that was the most expensive, I don't use that much- go figure! I just liked all the features on this one but most of all it had the features and was still very light weight. A lot of the other ones were so heavy and bulky and my favorite bags for Belle are the schmushy ones.

Linda- He is fine in the car with it but I only had him zipped in it for about 20 mins thus far. I think the picture from my phone gives the perfection of his head being close that the bag is tiny but I would estimate it to be 15-17 inches long? Dash can lay down in it. But you are right about curling up. I have freaked out a few times thinking Dash wasn't in his crate at agility but he was so curled up in the back, I didn't see him.

Here is the website that has a variety of them. I would like a more fun one but I gotta make sure this one works well and convince DH I will use it :)

My breeder had a cute Vera Bradley bag that one of her dogs just loved and she was able to take her into stores, etc with it. So, me, thinking that Jammies would love it too, searched Ebay and bought one. It has turned into a diaper bag instead of a Jammies bag! She just never took to it and it was actually too heavy for me to carry on my shoulder with her in it....health issues on my part. I guess I should have worked with her more to get her to like it! I still love the bag for carrying her neccessities!
AND, I remember Holly & I searching Ebay for days to get the one that she wanted. It was difficult to find because it was discontinued. We did however find it, but I think it's Murphy's diaper bag too!
Amanda, Dash looks adorable in it and looks like a happy camper!

This is the one I got (denim) but I don't know if it is small or medium- I would guess toward medium but I don't see anything on the bag- this was her model one so it didn't have tags. She had many other styles to chose from but they were more expensive.

This is the one the vendor tried selling me with. But the $30 has all the features just not leather or fancy. With the sale it was $110 but DH would notice that charge and I have to prioritize. But they did have it with pink leather and Isabelle would have looked adorable (yes I can be one of those people!) However once you show her there is a head opening in a bag, you are SOL with Belle and wanting to stay in the bag. I have one bag for her without a head opening and that is the one I take when I want Belle to be hidden. I hope Dasher is better (he usually is!)

Amanda, Tucker is 13 lbs. Dash is less, I think. Do you think a 13 pounder would fit in that bag? It would be great to even be able to use the measurements as a guideline for when I'm able to purchase one for Tucker. And, lightweight as possible would be critical for me. Thanks!!

Sheri- Dash was 9.8lbs last time he was weighed (but got up to 10.2 at one point!) so it may not be the best bag for Tucker... not sure. Let me try Dora in it before you take my recommendation though. She is between 11 and 12lbs. Dora flips out in bags so I hardly ever use one her. I think I didn't get her used to them and she is more fearful about anything than my other two!

This is the bag I've posted about a lot that I have for both Kubrick and Hitchcock. I have the backpack model and I love it! I also love that the straps are removable so you can use it as carseat (it has straps in the back for a seat belt to go through). I use the medium on Kubrick who is 15lbs and it works very well. I'm really happy with it and I love that it's a backpack since it's easy on the shoulders - 15lbs gets really heavy really fast, let me tell you! On a backpack the weight is very bearable. I've had this bag for almost 2 years now and there's no visible wear on it. It looks as good as new.

Here's Kubrick in his backpack at the airport in February. I took this with my iPhone so the quality is not that great.

Okay, Lina, I need more info...like where you got it, and exactly which one was it? I like the different color! And, if Kubrick fits, Tucker sure would. I don't recall your posting this before, so must have missed it when you did. I also like that it can be used in the car, along with being airline approved, back packable, and, of course, knowing the size would work.

I like the bag you got Amanda. I've been looking at bags and want to get one that looks more like a purse and be able to go into places with Mimi without being noticed. Some of the bags I have seen look too much like diaper bags or have a hole in it for the head. I do have a bag that I got at the dollar store that I use with her supplies when we go out and about and its functional.. I know... from the dollar store, but its made out of mesh material and its ideal for wear and tear at the park and such.

Lina, where did you find your bag?

I got it from the Celltei website that Amanda linked to above. I have the Active Backpack-o-Pet in size Medium. Kubrick's is the original Active Backpack-o-Pet and Hitchcock has the newer version (on the website it's the one that says New 2009). Here's the link to the backpacks:

Kubrick cannot stretch out in it by any means, but he can lay down just fine and turn out. The backpack says that it's comfortable for up to 12lbs but possibly up to 20lb dogs - my 15lb Kubrick goes into it with no problems. If you are worried, you can get the large one which fits comfortably up to 18lbs, but I thought it was a bit too big so I went with the medium and have no complaints about it.

I love the bags on the Celltei website! I have this one in green: http://store.celltei.com/cellteipaws.html

I got the medium and Duncan is 4.8 lbs and he has lots of room in there. In the few weeks I have had him, I've brought him into a bunch of stores and no one has noticed that a dog is in there. It might not be the best bag when he gets over 10lbs, but for the little ones, it's great!

I used the bag tonight on Isabelle when I went to her obedience class and then shopping. I will say it is important to try the bag on the dog before you buy it. Isabelle is 7.25 inches at the whithers where as Dash is about 9.5. So Belle kept coughing with her head coming out the center. She is standing and wanting to see everything but it put pressure on her throat. She probably had a little too much room and had I been buying the bag for Belle, I wouldn't have gotten that size as it is too big for her.
