*photo added* SO SAD :( My Mom's Havanese buddy.....

.... had to be put to sleep in the middle of the night at the emergency vet. He was in good health besides normal aging stuff and was not quite himself yesterday. Apparently he had undiagnosed cancer in his stomach and was bleeding out. My poor mom is devastated and heartbroken. He's been with her through everything and was like her child. My kids will be so sad. She said she had him cremated and the vet gave her a lock of his hair and his pawprints. He was almost 15 years old and his name was Paco. He will truly be missed. I was standing in my kitchen today after I got off the phone with her and my two pups were sitting there staring at me with their big brown eyes. I know what my mom is going thru and it's so hard. I lost my 1 year old Havanese in 1996 from immune mediated hemolytic anemia. His death was very sudden. Paco- man, you will be missed and will NEVER BE FUR-gotten :(
Here's a photo of my two oldest kids with Paco last summer when they went to visit my Mom in MI for two weeks :( I can't quit crying.

I am so sorry for your family. Losing a pet is so hard as they are part of your family. We lost our yellow lab 2 yrs ago, Missy was 12 and last year we lost Brandy one of our goldens. She also was over 12. It was so hard as they had been with us since my sons were young and had grown up with them. There is not a day that I don't think about them or talk about them. I will always miss them but try to smile and remember the joy they brought us.

Nicole, how sad. My sympathies to you and your mom, and the family. Paco lived a nice, long time, but we are never ready to let go. This sounds like it was rather sudden. :(

I'm sitting here with tears in my eyes for all of you. With those we love, two or four legged, no matter how long they live it's just not long enough. I'll say a prayer for Paco on his journey and your mom in her great sadness. I suspect Linda will be getting a call before long. Though the new ones never replace the love we lost, they are angels who help heal a broken heart.

God bless you all.

I encouraged my mom to consider a new puppy when she's ready. Not that we ever replace the one we lost but it does help the healing process (I have been there). When she's ready I will refer her to Linda. My mom is having a really hard time b/c she travels a lot (every three weeks to come home to work. She kept her job after Hurricane Katrina but she lost her home. She moved to MI with my stepdad b/c he's a pilot and that's where his job is. Her boss lets her work from home then she comes in to visit us and work for a week or two.) My stepdad is home when he's not flying but when they are both gone they had a wonderful lady that kept Paco for them (at a doggie "inn" where he had free roam of the house) so getting a new puppy with their schedules the way they are is not an easy decision.

I can hardly stand this for your mom, I lost my little schnauzer last July to pancretitus and I still mourn for her. I got Rosie two weeks later and the cloud lifted then. But, I still tend Pearl's little grave and think of her often. Heartfelt thoughts for your mom.

Thanks everyone for the kind words, thoughts and prayers. I called my mom a little while ago and we were laughing about funny things about him one minute then we'd be crying the next. I keep looking at him picture and crying. He's not even my dog but he's part of the family. He was my four legged brother (I never had a human brother- just a sister)

Oh, Nicole, I am so sorry for your mom and all your family. Paco was so cute and was truly loved . . . I can tell! All of us here who have lost one of our babies feel her pain. We will certainly be thinking of her and your family

And your mom will eventually love another again. When we lost our lab in Jan., I thought I would be dying to get another Hav this summer, but the scheduling thing is an issue with a puppy, too. We are gone a lot, and Jackson has lots of fun places to stay, but a puppy is a whole different story. I think I may consider an older one so we don't have to deal with all of that. Your mother may want to think about one a little older as well.

I'm so sorry to hear about Paco's passing..... It's such a difficult event to go through. I hope your mom is able to consider a new puppy. It took me about 12 years and now that I have Daisy and Beau - I can't believe I waited so long as they add so much to my life. I shouldn't have waited so long.....

I am so sorry for your loss. I know your mother is heart broken, but what a blessing to have a dog for 15 years and healthy until the very end. We should all be so lucky.

Tell her we are sending her healing hugs.
