Havanese Rescue was invited to an event called "Paws for a Cause" sponsored by Hardeko Helping Paws, held on Saturday May 7th, in Cicero, New York. This was one of the best events that I have ever been to. This event was to benefit animal rescue groups and featured
"Pitboss" Shorty Rossi and his pitbull Heruculus from California and his crew. They had over 30 rescues along with vendors. Vendors included were Pet Food Mfg. Animal Experts, awesome bird rescue's and much more. Prizes, raffles and give aways were also done. It was $5.00 for advanced tickets, which they sold over 1000 advanced tickets.
We set up our table and kissing booth and pamphlets, a dvd of our fosters and a few items to sell. Judy Watson's havanese, Gabriella, was full of kisses for $1.00 and folks loved her. Our very own Eddie was there, and of course, they interviewed him, well they tried, but all he did was bark an lick the girl, lol. He is still such a ham.
Our main money maker was the kissing booth along with baked goods that we baked and sold, which were: Brownies, with and without nuts, choc. chip w/m&m cookies, choc. mousse squares and peoples puppy chow. Also bought a few items from the Christmas Tree Shoppe and sold those items for $.25 more and they went fast. My Home Depot also donated a beautiful plant with a hanger to the event for the raffle. It is with great pride to tell you that we raised $148.00 at our table and Hardeko Helping Paws split their proceeds with all rescue's who participated and Havanese Rescue received a check from them for $316.00. A grand total of $464.00 was donated to our rescue. I definitely couldn't of done this without the help of Judy Watson and her havanese Gabriella, Kristine and Joey Fay along with my right hand girl, Hannah Fay - Eddie's parents, and of course Eddie, who was brought to the center stage and I talked about his life from the puppy mill to where he is now. One of the crowds favorites. Michele Pigula an Kristin Albright, is always there to lend a hand and bring in their foster dog Max who is a bischon..and of course, my husband Pat, who is always there lending a hand. They will be holding this again next year, and I cannot wait, it'll be bigger than this year, and we will be participating again, with the kissing booth and much, much more. A special thanks to Karen Grant for providing the awesome picture album of the dogs that are available, and a HUGE thank you to Hardeko Helping Paws along with Dog Daze - Ruth and David Sturgiss, who brought this all together... Pictures to follow. by Sharon Fay
