I am in email contact with a breeder in the Washington area. She has three adult females for rehoming. I am interested in a white and chocolate 2 & 1/2 half year old that she took in from a breeder going through a divorce. What questions should I ask other than the obvious health test questions? How many litters would the average 2 year old have produced? I am concerned but also feel strongly that I do not want these girls to end up in a breeding mill. I would immediately have her spayed. Also, ideas on the best way to introduce her and Sasha. I do plan on getting the book listed re multiple dogs. If anyone in the WA/OR area has ideas or knows the breeders here send me a PM and I will give you names in return for advice. I am trying very hard not to get to excited. Thank you.:)

Since you can't finish health testing until a dog is 2, they really shouldn't have more than one litter possible before they are 2 1/2. If this breeder who currently has them is reputable, she would NEVER let these girls end up in a puppy mill!

Just click on Tom's name, and one of the options that will come up is private message. Click on that and you're good to go!

It is recommended that you introduce the two dogs on neutral territory. A park or pet supply store can be a good place, and it would be very helpful if a friend could help you by bringing one of the dogs with him or her.

Good luck. I know how exciting it can be..

I am looking forward to Friday. I spoke with Leela's breeder today and found out she does the testing recommended. She has Leela back with her because she sold her to the lady that had to give her up due to divorce. Stephanie requests that if any of her puppies need to be surrendered she get them back. She recommended a trial of 2 to 3 weeks to see if Leela and Sasha can be friends. If for any reason it does not work she wants her back. She is a very knowlegable woman and in a short conversation I learned more info about our Havs. I am excited I hope my baby feels the same after a few days. Oh, Leela is 2 & 1/2 years 10 1/2 " tall and 12-13lbs. Brown & white female.

That is so exciting! Don't forget, it takes a little while for the current dog to get used to the intruder. With each addition of mine, though you all know they were wanted and adored, I did have a day or two where I said, WTH did I do, I must be crazy. With Leela, it might be a little easier because she's older.

I can't wait for you. Keep us posted (as I know you will). :)

We have had painters in our house almost daily for several weeks, due to our renovation/addition. The painter has a very nice (big!) dog that goes everywhere with him. At first, the dog was staying outside, but he's such a nice dog, and looked so pathetic out there that I started letting him in. I am pleased to say that Kodi and he have gotten along fine from day one. The big dog isn't as playful as Kodi, so occasionally there is some barking, when Kodi tries to get him to play, (Apollo just ignores him when he does this:)) But otherwise, they just tend to hang out near each other. Even when I hand out cookies, there has been no snarkiness on either side. So I think if and when I DO get another Hav, as long as the second also has a good disposition, it won't be much of a problem.

My brother and his girlfriend are getting a Burmese Mountain puppy this weekend. They have wanted one for years now and have done all of their research and selected a reputable breeder, etc. I can't wait to get my Ceylon and the puppy together, even though the puppy will be bigger than Ceylon when my brother first gets him! ;)

Heather this reminds me of when Molly was in puppy classes. She made friends with a Bernese, during the eight week course. And four years after that we ran into this dog and her owner while we were camping. Talk about dogs memory , they both remembered each other, and it was obvious. I'm sure it was an olfactory type connection. It blew the owner and I away. They are great dogs, only thing is they have a short average lifespan. I'm hoping we run into each other again. :focus:
