Could you all share advice on how much food to feed a 9 month old. I follow the guidelines on the package of dry food and I am feeding her about a cup to a little over a cup of food per day and split that into 2X per day. But she always seems hungry. Sometimes I feed her 3X per day. I don't want to over feed or under feed. What amounts are all of your dogs eating. She is a little over 10 lbs. Her mother was 9 lbs and I think her father was a very large Havanese of about 18lbs.
Thanks
I am new to this site and love all the information being shared. I wish I had discovered it when I first brought Lola home.

well, I think, "what ever lola wants, lola should get." I think if she is very very active she should eat what ever she wants. She is still growing. How is her weight? have you checked with your vet? I know some parasites can make them very hungry. I am envious- Jasper barely eats a 1/2 a cup a day.

Welcome Lola:

Sam gets 1/4 cup mixed with about 1 teaspoon of canned food, in the morning and again at supper. He does get lots of training treats through out the day. Sam is almost 15 months and 15 lbs.

With all the food recall I've been giving him a little chicken or fish what ever meat we have for supper instead of the can.

I know there are guidelines, and you should check with your vet. Every dog is different. Kodi is not a good eater and sometimes he'll only eat once a day. Other days he eats 2x. Shelby is going to be 6mos on Apr 5th and she still eats 2-3 times a day. But she is also a bigger dog than Kodi.

Bugsy is 9 months old (as of March 21st) and weighs 10.3 lbs. When he was actively growing he ate 1/4 cup of kibble with just a tea spoon of soft food or ground chicken mixed in 3 times a day. But lately and I am guessing because he is not growing much anymore, he is gotten to be a hugely picky eater and most days will eat only twice a day and very unwillingly. The 1/4 cups are very level, not heaping and he always leaves a little in the bowl. We've had days where he only ate a 1/4 cup. He is happy, healthy and super active, so you would think he'd eat better, but....

My wee hungry horace would eat you if you stood still long enough, intially was feeding her 3 times a day...but so much poo. I thought she was eating TOO much. So I have cut her down to 2 a day but with a little extra..hope I am doing the right thing she seems happy enough. .....still loads of poo though..wonder when that slows down.

Annabelle weighs 8 lbs and is 14 months old. She is not a good eater either. She eats 1/4 cup Flint River, lamb and millet, with 1/8th teaspoon Bright eyes, 1 teaspoon yogart and 1/16 lb. free range hamburger, or a bite of chicken, twice a day. She usually dosen't eat both. Nibbles at one and usually eats most of one. I wonder about feeding her once a day but the Vet suggests small dogs eat small meals twice a day. Maybe, I should try giving her less at each of her meals. But as you see, it would be hard to cut these measures smaller.

At 8.5 months and 15 lbs., Ricky eats just over 1/3 cup twice/day of mixed kibble plus maybe 5-10 bits of liver treats (I break bits off the large chunks they sell) for training and sometimes gets some cooked chicken, beef or Natural Balance's lamb meat roll and might have a biscuit or two.

Sammy who is 8 months and 8 lbs., gets the same exc. for the kibble. He eats about 1/4 cup of that.

Cosmo & Ahnold eat the same amount of food . About a third to a half cup of home cooked food twice a day . Ahnold weighs less but they both seem to have a good appetite and finish their food .

Cosmo was much pickier before Ahnold came to be his buddy ..
Today they had a little kibble for bkfst as I ran out of home cooked . California Natural puppy formula - mostly chicken and brown rice . They ate it all and now later in the day they are hungry looking for treats .
I feed them twice a day morning and evening - they are both very active and they are both slim . WHen they are wet they look so funny as there is not much to them ..
Cosmo is larger and weighs more than Ahnold - they do not seem to gain weight .
As to the poo it takes a while . Cosmo is now slowing down but he did poop a lot for a long time . He is now just over 9 months

MacGyver's 16 pounds at 10 months and eats 1/2 cup of California Natural puppy twice a day. His big brother had some stomach problems and is eating chicken and rice, so MacGyver gets a taste of rice or chicken with his food, which thrills him no end. I think he'd eat as much as we'd give him.
