Hello,

I am currently looking for a Havanese and was just wondering if anyone here has heard of or dealt with 'Sineade kennel'? They are located in Ontario Canada, and Florida as well. Ther are listed on the havanesefanciers website as member breeders.

They seem VERY good and reply to all questions very quick and seem to know there stuff. I'm about to put my deposit down, but was just wondering if any of you might know anything. I've been reading this forum and you all seem to have great experience with the everything about the Havanese.

Usually I'm a very trusting person, but its just kind of scary since this is somewhat of a large purchase.. pretty much its like buying a member of your family, so just want to make sure i'm doing the right thing. This is my 1st dog purchase ever!

Thanks all.
Ryan:) :)

I'm not familiar with them, but make sure you check out our Breeders forum for info.

Make sure you get PROOF of all health testing done on the parents, and check the numbers at the correct websites.

It's great if their dogs have championships, or points, it means they've meet what the judge's thought was the standard for a Havanese.

Good Luck!

Some of the dogs in Sam's pedigree come from Sineade. Great dogs. Good luck with your new pup.

I don't know of this breeder. I am in QC. Do they have a website?
It's good to ask all the questions and reassuring that they don't mind answering them. Good luck and let us know how things go!

Know Anything About This Breeder?

I don't know anything about them, but do know some good ones in CAN if that's what you are looking for.

I always send a long list of references and tons of info about me and my dogs to someone who inquires. Did you get that without asking?

Hav puppy

Well, they did give me a reference and I emailed them and all seems very good. They say that all health tests are done on the parents, but they do not post the results anywhere. But they do have the copies with them for viewing if you pay a visit. They encourage us to come and see the puppy once its born.. The deposit is fully refundable if they do not have the perfect puppy for us. 1 year health guarantee...etc.. etc..

They honestly sound like very nice people.

Most of that sounds OK. I would get more than 1 reference. I have only been breeding for 4 years, and I provide at least a dozen references. I also provide a 5 year health guarantee. Some things can't even be tested until 24 months of age. Ask what they test for and ask for copies of the tests. I don't send mine in either, because there is a fee to do so, but I give hard copies to puppy buyers. I test hearts before I breed, patellas, hips, elbows, and I CERF annually. I require my puppy buyers CERF annually also - through age 8. Ask for test results on patellas, hips, CERF on parents and when last CERF'd.
I've seen some of their dogs in some good pedigrees. BUT, I've been shafted badly by some "reputable" breeders. I know many others who have also.
My health guarantee offers a specific amount of money back or another puppy - buyer's choice. Most breeders offer a "replacement puppy." They do this knowing that once you hold one of these Havanese lovers for 30 seconds, you would fight to your death before giving back, so they never have to honor that guarantee. I know very few breeders who offer less than a 2 year guarantee.
I see some good things and some serious red flags, but more communications and clarification could fix all of that.

I'm 61 years old and extremely trusting, but in my many years on this planet, I have discovered that the best doctors have great skills and lousy bedside manner; very personable people have to be nice, because they aren't honest and fool you with their "niceness". . . . . I am extremely cautious around very personable people.
Investing in a family member for 15-20 years at a rather hefty chunk of change plus the years of vet care, etc. is about "quality" so you both have a quality 15-20 years of love and laughter. Unfortunately, it's not about being nice, so get ALL of the facts.
Also ask if they have had any dogs with CD or still do; if parents have it, etc. It's a front leg problem. You can go to the OFA site and read about these maladies.

Hav pup

Hi again,

So you have actually heard of this breeder before? And they do generally have good dogs I'm assuming?

Yes, all those medical check they do.. the CERF every year, they do hips and patellas.

Whats the the dogs come home with: vet check, worming, innoculation record, health guarantee and a copy of the pedigree, and some food that puppy is eating. I also have tips on training, grooming etc.

Should the 1 year health guarantee be questioned? Should I ask for atleats 2yrs?

Thanks!

Unless they are really close to your home, I would ask them to email you scan copies of the test results, so you can verify them.

You can not imagine how many people forget to ask for it once their there... or the breeders can't find the documents right then, but they'll send it to you
