Boo was hospitalized this evening, due to a probable intestinal infection or pancreatitis. ALT is off the charts, bilirubin is elevated, and BUN reflects dehydration from all the vomiting last night and today. He is jaundiced and has a guarded prognosis, due to his age. However, positives are his heart and lungs seem strong and his kidneys are functioning fine. They will continuously monitor his heart function, during his hospitalization.

So strange that labs were not bad just a few days ago and he actually seemed to be improving. I took a video of him walking and exploring in the hospital on Tuesday.

Doctor said this kinda stuff comes up sometimes all of a sudden, particularly at Boo’s age. Hopefully, catching this early gives Boo a better chance of survival.

Please keep him in your thoughts and wish him a speedy recovery. I still hope to celebrate another birthday.

Just spoke with Boo's doctor. They now have a working diagnosis of acute pancreatitis. Boo was noted to have bacteria in the urine. So, it is being cultured. They have started him on antibiotics, and he is stable at present. The expectation is that he will be hospitalized for 3 to 5 days. After 2 days, they should have a better idea about the course of this illness. Keeping my fingers and toes crossed, and hoping for a favorable outcome.

Poor boy! But at least with a diagnosis, they know what to do for him! 💗

I know it's very hard to have him in the hospital and away from you. It's good they know what to work on with treating him now and it sounds like he's in good hands. I'm all too familiar with pancreatic issues and it's never an easy thing.
We're all pulling for sweet Boo. Keep us updated.

I’m so incredibly sorry for your loss. I can’t imagine the feeling of having to say goodbye to your baby after two decades of love and adventures and memories. The pain must be immense.

Hoping you can take some comfort in the fact that Boo seems to have had literally the best life humanely possible for a dog—20 years of love, being a world traveler, and having the most doting dad who worked tirelessly to keep him in tip-top shape and comfortable and happy in his super senior years.

I’m sure Boo is playing his puzzle games over the rainbow bridge and strutting his stuff in one of his fancy buddy belts.
