We are going to be staying with my sister in law, outside of Aurora.

I'm going to be away from her house most of the day on 2 different occasions, and I don't want to leave Princess alone that long... and I really don't want to leave her in a kennel here for a week either.

I would love it if anyone knew of a pet sitter or a doggy day care in that area (more or less, would be willing to drive 30min)

Thanks

Did you try looking at the yellowpages online? Or some kind of telephone directory?

Sorry I can't help, Jodi! Good luck!

Jodi, I have looked high & low and had a problem finding the right person or place. Sometimes they are right under your nose. I have a local trainer coming to the house for 6 sessions to work with Lily on her doorbell & barking issues. Turns out, she loves the dogs, they love her, and she said she is willing to take them if we need to go out of town. Check with local trainers. Once you meet them, even if you dont hire them for training, ask about the kind of training they do, and if they board. Mine even said she would train them more when she had them!! No trips planned yet, but I am gettin ready!!!

Thanks, I am loathe to try the phone book.. but it might be my last resort.

I'm hoping someone knows of a place up there, that way I don't have to try and kennel her here.

How about your vet? Do you go to a dog park? That's another good place to meet dog walkers and other dog owners. I find that word of mouth is the best.

Good luck,

Our vet does kennel, but the dogs are left alone so long, I would prefer to take her with us.. and then find a day care type program for her there.

That way she is with us most of the time, and only away when absolutely necessary. (can you tell she's already a part of the family? LOL)

You know, Jodi, that is a great idea! I would never have thought of bringing the dog(s) and having them cared for AT the vacation location! Of course, it might be harder to find someone you know of and maybe trust, but there is always a way and it does mean that she isn't away from the family for quite as long.

I am definitely taking notes here! Thanks ..... and good luck! :)

Hey
Doesn't Oprah live in Chicago . Maybe go on her web site and pose it as a question - if you can do such a thing . I know she is a dog lover - she does not have a Havanese but she just got some new new lab puppies . Maybe you could get some information that way ...

I have a client who goes down to Cape May NJ on vacation & has a place that boards her dog down there. Then when they are doing day trips that the dog can participate in, they go get him, take him out, and then bring him back to the boarder. She loves it!!
