Hi,

At our first obedience class last week, we met a guy with a little black dog. He said it was a "cousin" of the Havanese. I guess it's very rare and despite him telling us the name twice over the course of the evening, we can't remember it. It was something like Bolonka? They are smaller than Havanese. He got this one and its brother from a Havanese breeder in AZ. He says there are only 3 breeders in the US.

I have no interest in the breed itself but it's bugging me I can't figure out the name. I had never heard of it and I like to study dogs. :)

Hi Kari,

You got the name partially right. :) If it was black then the breed's name is Tsvetnaya Bolonka (which translates from Russian as colored Bolonka). It was developed in St. Petersburg, Russia from their original Bolonka which was pure white and a decendent of Bichon Frise.

HTH,
