Hey all!

Got the unfortunate news today that my sweet boy was positive for giardia. I have an idea of how he caught it, so no mysteries there. Just a huge bummer.

Any tips on how to keep him healthy and happy? He's been to a vet and had meds/prescription food/fluids/etc, I have set up a little sick boy jail for him and have been washing him up whenever he passes poop. Anything else I should know or try to do?

Dog Dog breed Carnivore Companion dog Liver

here's his sweet happy face at the vet yesterday. The vet tech said he did amazing with his IV fluids and didn't even get upset when they poked him.

Poor boy (and poor you— especially with him in full coat!)

It might be too late (not sure what coast you’re on) but when Jo had Giardia as a baby, we treated with Panacur. We had to get special dosing bc she was <3 lbs, and by the time it came, it was night, so we gave her the first dose before bed. It made her absolutely bounce off the walls all night. It was awful. It’s not a listed side effect, but there’s a lot on the internet about dogs having this odd reaction. We lowered the dose and switched to mornings, and we made it through the course but it was so weird how she reacted. So just something to keep an eye on!

I see! i did just give him panacur at around 5pm. he's been sleeping a bit oddly lately just because of having the runs but I'll see how he does.

Good— hopefully he’s good on it! It probably didn’t help Jo that she didn’t actually seem to feel bad, just came up in her fecal and slightly loose pop… sounds like he’s going through it— I hope he feels better soon!!
