Mr. Boo has taken to sleeping about 6+ hours, during the day, before waking. I know this may be due, in part, to his advanced age and/or medications. However, how long do other people's adult or senior Havanese generally sleep, during the day, without waking?

Perry's almost 7 but he very rarely sleeps without waking/ jumping up the minute I move. I can probably count on one hand the number of times I can get up without him opening his eyes and at least lifting his head to see where I'm going, so not sure he's ever really deeply asleep during the day.

As long as I'm not moving he will lounge around for a couple of hours at a time.

I'll have to keep an eye on Kodi for you and see if I can time it, because I know you're worried. But I know he sleeps a LOT longer than he used to. I think partially because he doesn't hear as well as he used to. I think it is often his bladder that wakes him up! :D

The younger ones wake up every time the wind blows! LOL!

I’d say Charlie (almost 11) will sleep soundly for several hours at a time during the day, though it’s unlikely that noting interesting happens for longer than that. I agree that Jo will wake up if I breathe too loudly!

Mine are sleeping more and more these days at work as they have gotten older, especially on gloomy days. I feel like sleeping on those days too. It has been a week since we saw the sun here. It is supposed to come out today so I am excited. Also, I use a clothesline for drying clothes and need some sun to catch up with laundry!

I was also thinking that for those of us with older dogs who ALSO have younger dogs, the younger dogs may often wake the older dogs up with barking when they would have slept through, otherwise. My husband had to go to the hospital in an ambulance late at night last week. (He’s OK, got home last night) but there was quite the commotion, with flashing lights and about 10 strangers in the house, etc., Then I went off to the hospital, not to get home again until about 2AM. Poor Kodi. All the other dogs got up around 7AM and wanted to go out and have breakfast. By 11AM, I was worried about him, and went up stairs and woke him up… (he was fine) and brought him down stairs, fed him and let him out to potty. He then went to his fluffy bed in the dining room and slept for the rest of the day! WAY too much excitement for the old boy!!!

Sorry to hear about your husband. I hope he is still doing well. Good point about one waking the other up. Even though mine are both old, that happens hear too. One smells or hears something like the UPS guy and the other one gets woken up.

So sorry to hear that - glad he's okay, but must have been scary for both of you, in addition to the dogs.

Thanks, yes, he’s back home, his irascible self. Made me drive him to the office to pick up work. (He WANTED to go to work and WORK, which I vetoed!)

Ruffin ratchets himself down on gloomy days like today. Too windy and cold today. He was on the couch with me in the morning, and keeping me company in the kitchen for hours today. He is 11 months old and definitely maturing, but still a pistol.

Dusty is 14 and he sleeps quite a bit. He also doesn’t hear well but on some days he’ll sleep for about 5 hours at a time on other days it’s a little less. If it’s a gloomy day, he definitely sleeps longer. I usually have to wake him up in the morning.
