Firstly I feel so lucky I found this forum! We just lost our loving mini dachshund and we are trying to find a dog with most of the qualities we love in our dachshund and the character traits that we wish she had.
Qualities we love about our dachshund:
1. Never wanted to run away or wander away even if one accidentally left her outside.
2. Never ate or tried to eat anything that wasn't food.
3. As previously mentioned, she always wanted to be with the family.
4. She was strong and her body didn't feel like it was delicate (Like my cousin's Maltese is).
5. Compact enough to take her into the cabin of a plane.
6. Hypoallergenic. (Our son is allergic to most dogs but wasn’t to our dachshund)
7. Low shedding.
8. Low coat maintenance (I feel this one is impossible to find if we want the rest of the other traits)
9. Powerful bark relative to size.
Qualities we wish our dachshund had:
1. More loving toward our kids (She only saw me as her buddy with not a lot of patience for our two kids)
3. A cuddle bug (She didn't like to be cuddled, she wanted to be beside you but not necessarily hugged)
4. Able to climb stairs without health consequences (We had to carry her up and down stairs for fear of developing back issues, it is common on the bread because of its elongated back.)
So after doing some research, we found that the Havanese pretty much had all the above qualities we wanted minus the low coat maintenance of course, but now we found out about this Havapoo and we are utterly confused about which breed suits our needs best.
Questions:
1. For our wish list which breed is best? Havanese or Havapoo?
2. Is there another breed that has all these traits with a low-maintenance coat?
3. I saw a video on YouTube that stated that Havanese males are usually more loving than females. Is there any truth to this statement as far as you guys have experienced?
