OH dear - doesn't sound very pleasant, Lynn! Reminds me of when I'd get the kids' spit-up on my clothes and not notice until I was out somewhere! lol

Oh, he sounds like a little cutie.

I can't get over the poop story, I know I shouldn't be LOL, but it's soo much easier to laugh over it when it's not your dog doing it.
Kind of sounds like our vomit story from the other day. Wayyy to hectic for me! LOL

We went to meet a trainer, she is actually world renowned (Behesha Doan), and trains police dogs as well as domesticated dogs... but I don't think I can Princess to her.
She uses the shock collar method, although it isn't a strong shock collar like you find at Petsmart, etc... I just don't think it would be necessary for Princess.

Her dogs are unbelievable, and their training is superb... but Princess is a really quick learner, and I can't really see the need for her to undergo that kind of training. I think it's just a bit much for her, not to mention big $$. Plus it seems a bit cruel to me.


Our vet is starting a conformation/show class, as well as obedience classes, and she said that I could get Princess in the Conformation class, and she wouldn't even need the obedience class because it's basically the same thing. That way she could just skip to advanced obedience when she's done. (Assuming she does well)

I do not know whether you want my two cents but I will give it to you anyway .
Under no circumstances in this day and age should you have to train a dog with a shock collar . That is the so old school ..
Please go to Amazon dot com and look at some dog training books recommended . Not one recommends a shock collar . Not even Cesars Way
Havanese are so smart . They can learn and they do not need to be shocked into it ..
Find someone else . Police dogs are a different breed entirely . They can have dominance issues and are hard to train . Also they have been inbreed a lot / They have strong muscular necks and can tolerate prong collars and I guess a shock collar but I would never use one .
Walk Away - no run away and find someone else ..

No shock collar training. This should never be the way with any dog. I took Kodi to training class and it was great. He needed to be socialized with other dogs and it worked really well. He learned sit, stay, down, etc. and they also jumped over poles and thru tires. We even did tunnels. It was great. I am planning to take Shelby also, because she is a wild one. She already knows the sit command and we are working on down.

In our class we used a leash and a regular collar. These are small dogs, they can't be jerked around like with a choke collar. Now I only use a harness on them. Even when I had big dogs, I only used a harness.

I wish I could take videos of our walks because it is so hysterical. Kodi is walking along, smelling all the trees and poles, and Shelby is jumping Kodi and biting him.

I went ahead and registered her this morning for the one with our vet.

I tried the collars she was using and they didn't seem to hurt, but it just seems kind of wrong to me.

I don't know, her dogs are great and all... but I can't see Princess ever needing that kind of training.

Anyhoo, we start Show Conformation classes (AKA: Basic Obedience! LOL) on Monday night.

Oh goodie, Jodi!! I'm envious! I was all set to sign up for some classes with Ricky once the holidays were over, but right after New Year's is when my back gave out on me and now I'm stuck. WAAAAAAAA ! I SO want to go to school with my puppy!! LOL
