Yes let's hear it for the seniors!
I hope that you will continue to tell us about all of Mia’s capers, since she is one of the older active ones on the forum.Yes let's hear it for the seniors!
Oh yes I will. She will be 15 in August and is doing well other than sleeping lots more. Food is still a passion of hers and she loves playing the find treat game where I hide treats all over the house and she finds them.I hope that you will continue to tell us about all of Mia’s capers, since she is one of the older active ones on the forum.
So sorry about Kodi. I keep thinking about him. It is so hard to see them go downhill.I loved Twinkle so much! I was HOPING Kodi would follow in his grandmother’s footsteps! He left me too soon, darn him! I was just telling someone else that he was a “young” 13 year old. When I took him to Tufts with the supposed “mass” in his belly (that turned out to be a bunch of garbage he had swallowed) I remember one of the vets saying “well, he’s an old dog… there is only so much you want to do in a case like this…” I looked at her and said, there is NOTHING wrong with him other than what is in his belly. He walked across the room on his hind legs, then did several other tricks, to their delight. I said, “Let’s just take care of him!”
But he started having trouble handling stairs over the winter, and in the last couple of months, after he went completely blind, he went down hill very quickly. 😢
It is SUCH a hard decision. You don’t want them to suffer, but you also don’t want to give up too soon. I kept hoping he would adjust. I had heard of other blind dogs, even those who went suddenly blind, who have adjusted well. But he was not adjusting at all.So sorry about Kodi. I keep thinking about him. As we have mentioned often...every dog is different. Someone I know said their yorkie's quality of life really went down when he lost his sight. I am sure you did what is best for Kodi.It is SUCH a hard decision. You don’t want them to suffer, but you also don’t want to give up too soon. I kept hoping he would adjust. I think we have a lot of still active members of the puppy class of 2015! I skipped Cassies’s birthday post last year because I could not believe she was already seven…cannot believe eight is drawing near. I send a picture of her each birthday to her breeder…she looks the same every year and plays with her toys the same as she did in 2015 (ran through the house yesterday with a long blue stuffed, squeaky dog that had been buried in her toybox…acted like it was a new thrilling new toy).We are in the same "grade" as Cassandra. Shama was born in June 2015, and I think we joined the Forum shortly thereafter. She will turn eight in less than a month. It's so hard to believe!
Pixel and Panda are both in this “grade”. Pixel is already 8 (Feb 22) and Panda will be next Oct 15th. Unbelievable! Time for “senior panels” for all our “puppies”!!!Poor baby, Kodi! I can't imagine your grief.
Thank you, Boo's Dad, for starting this thread. I'm sorry I've been away from the Forum so much that I didn't even know about Bugsy and Dusty. My condolences to their families.
I was thinking that we usually start threads for each year to highlight the puppies that were born in that year, but do we start an IN MEMORIAM thread each year? If we don't, we should. We should start an IN MEMORIAM thread and let everyone mention the dogs they have lost since joining the Forum.

And now Panda, my puppy girl, is the “Grandma” around here! LOL!I think age is very relative. I belong to a ladies group where they call me "the youngster". I am 68! Now that I have two dogs 14 and 15, an 8 year old dog sounds like a pup!
I do recall thinking my dogs were getting old at age 8!!! Maybe it is those senior vet panels! And now Panda, my puppy girl, is the “Grandma” around here! LOL!
