Meet Coco Bean

Hello,
I just got my Havanese puppy. She will be 12 weeks old tomorrow.
She is a sweetie and we just love her. I have large breed dogs (a sheepadoodle and a standard poodle). She is a bit scared of them. When they came up to sniff her she growled. But she likes to sniff them when they are in their crates. Of course, she has been here less than a day, so I'm sure everything is new and scary to her. Any tips on getting them to be around each other? I don't want to traumatize her.

Cocobean is adorable. I wonder if it would be helpful for awhile to not let Cocobean loose with the other dogs until she has time to do lots of sniffing of them and get used to them and vice versa. For example, either keep Cocobean in her pen or the other dog's in their crates. However, have them near so she can sniff them but still feel safe. I don't think I would feel comfortable right now letting them all together. Hopefully others who have big dogs have some advice. I am very careful if my dogs are around big dogs because they could be easily hurt.

Yes, she was in my lap when they came up to sniff her. I did not let her loose on the ground with them. And your advice is exactly what I have been doing today. :)

Thanks! I guess she is a red sable with white markings...but my understanding is she will most likely change a lot!
Cocobean looks just precious! 💗

She’s adorable! Definitely suggest lots of interactions with a crate or gate in between before letting them interact out in the open. Your lap actually may have made inadvertently made them more scary for her because she couldn’t get away (plus some dogs resource guard their people!) I’m sure with these thoughtful interactions now, before long the biggest issue will be keeping her safe when she’s trying to play with the big guys!

They are now playing great. She loves the big dogs and my standard sheepadoodle is very gentle with her. They seem to know she is smaller and play with her completely differently than with each other. We always supervise, but she has no problem putting them in their place if needed. haha.
lol just realized this was an old message, not sure why it showed on my new list🙃So glad to hear they’re getting along great!
