I just had my puppy neutered today - he is 8 months old. He is wearing the cone but won't eat, walk outside and is whimpering and barking for the first time ever. The vet used glue so he has no stitches. I know they said to keep the cone on for 3-5 days all of the time but it seems the stress and activity trying to pull it off is worse. Any suggestions?
I didn't need to use a cone with either of my boys. If you have him with you I think he should be fine without the cone. They also make soft cones that you can buy at most of the pet stores. My Cassie was much happier with that when she needed a cone. Many people on the forum here use baby onesies to keep them from getting at the area rather than a cone, or even little boy undies. I hope he feels more like himself soon!
yes, baby onesies are AWESOME! After Tillie's spay we used them and would just unsnap and roll it up when she needed to go potty. She only wore it for 4-5 days... I could imagine boys heal even faster... try it! But be warned... matting WILL occur!!
I was firm and he survived the first night. Other than walking into a few walls, cone first, he is being great so I will stick with the cone for now hoping he will heal quickly. Thanks for the replies, I wish I had looked first and had the soft cone or onsies in the house -
there is a wonderful product out there called Comfy COne. you can buy them at petsmart and elsewhere. it's a cone but soft so your pup can lay down eat, etc. etc.
My boy dogs have been known to walk into my legs more than once. It seemed as if they were doing it as a protest although I am probably just anthropomorphizing. :suspicious:
