Hi everyone! I wanted to introduce my Starborn pup Murphy from Ruby’s February 2025 litter. He is 7 months old and a healthy 12 lbs and has been just an absolute dream. Some of the great things about him:
He is extremely friendly and loves all animals and people. He is pretty fearless although over the last couple of weeks he has been a bit more quick to alert.
He did great with potty training, leash training and recall. He is improving with “dropping” things when I ask him to.
I put him in puppy classes from 12-18 weeks and he was known to be the best student. I find myself slacking on daily training because he does so well. I also take him with me just about everywhere including Costco and he is hardly ever alone for more than 4 hours.
He is so loving and definitely a Velcro dog which runs in my favor of very good recall.
He is extremely silly and entertaining.
His best friend is a 8 lbs cat and they love to chase each other back and forth.

Some challenges:
He can be a picky eater and will protest food for an entire 24 hours because I’ve learned not to fall for it.
He does not have separation anxiety at home and can be left alone with no issue, but staying at a hotel for the first time is another story. He will bark and sing the song of his people if left alone. Not exactly sure how to train him in that given that he’s totally fine at home or my mom’s house.
He is starting to alert more as of the past 2 weeks. When he hears a noise he will bark. For some reason he is very protective of my mom’s house and if he sees people walk by he will bark at them.
He has trouble settling himself down and gets very busy when he’s tired at night until I put him to bed

After not having a puppy for a very very long time and having older pups who were very well behaved… he has been everything I could have dreamed of a perfect puppy.

Welcome!! He is so gorgeous! Hi from his half brother, Archie (Ruby’s June 2024 litter).

I similarly found that alert barking picked up seemingly out of nowhere when he got closer to one year. I haven’t figured out a great solution, though if I tell him to stop he usually will. We had some success if you’re able to catch him when you first hear a noise, before he barks, and give him a treat for engaging with you and not reacting.

kudos to you for keeping up with the long coat! Archie had awful matting while his coat was changing and also gets very dirty while playing so the puppy cut has worked well, but I’m trying to commit to growing it out this fall.

Hi Archie! Funny thing is that I almost named him Archie but he didn’t respond at all to it. The first time I called him Murphy he responded right away so we kept it!
He does the same thing… he will bark but if I tell him to stop he usually does. That’s very good advice to distract him before he notices. I will definitely have to try that.

He gets pretty dirty too and when he’s outside he brings so many leaves back in with him. He’s Velcro in many different ways 😆. I’ve been brushing him a lot. Sometimes multiple times a day. Also… Pam recommended liquid silk serum that I use for his baths and it seems to help. I’d love to see Archie with long hair! He’s so gorgeous!

I have no problem at all with any dog alert barking. I want my dogs to pay attention to things going on around our home. As long as they will stop when I tell them I have things under control, (which they do) I am fine with it!

Hello from your brother Ozzie (aka Cupid)! Excited to see another from his litter! Murphy is gorgeous - do you remember his name Pam gave him? so fun to see how their personalities are the same / different.
Ozzie is also extremely friendly to people - he loves everyone.
Dogs - some he loves and some he ignores lol. His girlfriend Meg (a red cavapoo at class) he absolutely adores. And she is the same. Her owner and I joke that they learn nothing during class as they are only staring at one another.
He is also doing well with potty training - we are traveling this pst two weeks and accident free!
Leash training - well he doesn’t mind the leash but seems to forget he is on it. I think he was a sled dog in a past life lol.
But he is the same with food - I know they say he won’t starve himself but I think he is trying to prove them wrong! Ongoing challenge. I have been heating it up with warm water and making a gravy and he does seem to be accepting that lol. But today is a new day so will see where he at haha.
And we have noticed these past few weeks that he has started to bark at things. Demand barking has always been a challenge but now he is a bit more vocal when we out.
Separation anxiety - he hates to be alone. This is something we really have to work on with him.
And is Murphy a chewer? Ozzie is a very good boy around the house - really haven’t needed to tell him more than once to leave it on furniture… but his toys, harnesses, beds…. They are not safe from his teeth! We have gone through two harnesses in 5 days on this trip lol.

Oh my gosh, how cute! I love his ponytail. Archie had some struggles eating around adolescence but Pam assured me he wouldn’t starve himself and that catering to him would only make him pickier…so I stuck with it (despite my worries, lol) and he grew out of it! Now he eats his kibble without a topper just fine. Previously I would have to put wet food on top or he wouldn’t eat it. I’m not sure what changed but I put it in a snuffle mat now which makes meal time more exciting for him.

Hahahah - yes - he does stick out. Funny thing - I have gone back to watch the videos of him that Pam posted. And he is still the same little Ozzball - burying his toy in the litter 😂. Tom said he was a digger but weirdly the only time he “digs” is to hide his food he no longer wants in a blanket. Which is a real treat when I go to pick it up haha. But he doesnt dig in the yard.

Too funny! I have done the exact same thing with Rudy. I have watched the videos and I can most definitely see his personality shining through! He still runs with this funny sideways gate sometimes, always makes me smile.
