It TOTALLY depends on the individual. While it is true that most boys are total loves and I certainly wouldn’t dissuade pet people from wanting one, the idea that “females have “more frumpy days” is off base. A few might be like that, most do not. While they are definitely DIFFERENT than males, and I guess often a bit more intense, that doesn’t mean any less loving or any MORE “grumpy”. Pixel spends most of her time ON my husband when he is home, and Panda comes to me and DEMANDS a hug, (with arms around my neck) at least once a day. Boys tend to love EVERYONE, while girls like everyone, but are more apt to have “special people” in their lives.

And spays can be hard… or not. It is definitely more invasive surgery than a neuter… no question about that. But Panda breezed through hers. The hard part was keeping her quiet for the required 2 weeks! But that is 2 weeks out of the life of the dog. Hardly something to sway your entire decision over. Let your breeder help you choose the right puppy for you based on his or her personality… not the gender of the puppy!
