So my boy Jasper just turned a year on the 3rd of January. He has been perfectly potty trained now for 8 months ( I have been very proud of this fact given the problems I have heard of with Hav's and potty training) He sleeps with us, and the last two nights I have woken up to discover a hard little poop, once under the bed (must have kicked it off), and last night on the bed.

Since we 're sleeping when it happens- I have no way to correct him at the time-- But I'm a very light sleeper- so if he had made a fuss I would have woken up--- so it would seem ihe just does it. I am more upset by the fact that he did where he (and his pack) sleep-- than that he had an accident.

If he has been fully trained for that long, I would have the vet check him out. If nothing wrong there, put him in a small crate next to the bed & see what he does.

Is he going out before bedtime? Or are you feeding him anything before bed? I know that Kodi has only gotten me up once during the night when he was about 5 mos. He didn't poop on the bed, but he had a loose stool and was crying so he could get down and go potty. If it persists, have him checked.

You got some good advice already. I just have to second feeding dinner earlier in the evening, taking him out right before you go to bed and crate him.

Thanks for the thoughts. it doesn't seem to be feeding issue--nothing has changed and he never has had a hard time holding it- I will call the vet and have him checked out --- he's also been very itchy--- maybe related? maybe I'll try to crate him again-- but it has been a while since we've done that. not sure how that will work. thanks again.

My guys have only had accidents on the bed once or twice, they never go there if they can help it. Usually it means they could not hold it. So maybe he has an infection. I would ask your vet without a doubt. I would think if he would go on the bed, he would go in his crate?

He wont like that crate at all.

I took Jasper to the Vet today and no infections. I crated him last night-- and he was aok. No accidents and he didn't seem to mind it. A friend of mine thinks that he was stressed because my husband was going to be away for ten days (although the accidents started before he left) but maybe Jassy felt our stess... who knows. The good news for both me and Jas is that my husbands trip got shortened. The vet also thought it could be him testing his power in his adolescence. I will stick with the crate a little longer. We're also going to allergy test him--- maybe get to the bottom of his itching and food finickyness.

Hi Missy,

So glad to hear that Jasper is ok. You are right to crate him at night a few more nights just to be sure.

As far as allegries, I think it's a good idea to have him tested. I have no experience with allergies in animals or kids. As far as picky eating, it's tipical of Havanese. Bugsy can be pretty finicky and will not eat any kible dry. What works really well for him is adding a tea spoon of Wyson'g chicken or beef au jus. It's canned food that's 95% meat and he just gobbles his food up. I also give add raw egg to his food once every 2 to 3 days, or any leftover chicken or beef that I put through food processor. Actually all three of my dogs love goodies added to their food.

i did not have my dog tested but the vet told me he is probably sensitive to the wysong puppy kibble that I had him on . This was when he was 11 weeks old .
She said she was seeing a lot of food sensitvities and allergies in what she called specialty breeds . She said it is because of the increased demand and inbreeding and it is a price we pay when we want a specific breed .
I have my dog on a home cooked food regime and he is doing fine no itching or bowel problems now .
Some people feed raw diet . My Vet did not recomend this for various reasons but a lot of the food is not good quality and they are seeing bowel perforations and major problems from bacteria .
I cook him either chicken , turkey , or whitefish ( he is not too keen on the fish ) . I add Carrots or Zucchini or squash and also sweet potatoes and yukon gold potatoes . I make a large pot like a stew and then feed it over the week . Sometimes he will not eat it do not ask me whay then we try something else for a while . Just a different meat turkey instead of chicken I do not give him meat . He does not eat kibble much but I have found a Venison Kibble that is fine and he tolerates that well .
Once you make the stew I add Vitamin mixture to it Enymes and probiotics to the bowl just before I feed him . I also warm it to room temperature . It works well .
Yep you are right - he is totally spoiled but what can I do he has to eat !
Havanese are finicky . I was lucky my first little fellow did fine with Wysong kibble and never had many problems but things change ..
I do think it is worth it . He is happy healthy and he has great energy ..
