Teddy (My 5 y/o male neutered Bichon). Seems depressed and jealous of the new puppy. He has not been eating much and he won't go near her. He growls at her if she comes too close to him. He is not aggressive so I feel confident he won't hurt her (he runs away from her and has not tried anything bad with her). In your experience do dogs usually get over this? How long does it take? I am trying to give him a lot of attention, pets etc. He is still sleeping in bed with me (she is either in her x-pen or in her travel crate next to my bed). I just fell bad for him. any advice would be welcome (short of giving up either one of them that is .)

Awww poor Teddy. First let me say I love Bichons! Tami, (saltangohavs) is a member here, she also has a Bichon.

It takes them a while to get used to a new puppy. Goldie would play with Stogie, but when she figured out he was staying, she was pouting and would pretend he wasnt here. Now they are best friends.

Also a lot of dogs dont like puppies. As your puppy grows and they are around each other more, I bet they start to play. I hope someone on here who has more experience will pipe in, but be patient. It sounds like you are doing all the right things. Maybe Tami can tell you how her Bichon gets along with the Havs.

Good Luck. Kisses to Teddy! What is your puppys name?

My new puppies name is Winnie the Pooh. We usually just call her Winnie. I will try to get her picture up this week.

Oh yea! I think I read that in the journal.

Thats a cute name. If I were you, I would go get a big winnie the pooh stuffed animal and take a photo of Winnie next to Winnie. Thats the photographer in me!

Where is Tami? She needs to tell you about Buddy the Bichon. Im going to find a photo of him.

Buddy gets along great with our Havanese. We had him first, he loves puppies. I hope Teddy and Winnie become best friends soon. It sounds like you're approaching this in the right manner, giving Teddy attention first should help with the jealousy.

Here's a picture of Buddy

Buddy is sooo cute. The Havanese in your picture looks like my Winnie. Teddy is still avoiding Winnie and Winnie is trying her darndest to get him to play with her. Teddy will still cuddle up with me or whoever else is around, as long as he is clear of Winnie. He was going upstairs to escape but Winnie has figured out how to go upstairs. Once she gets there however she cries and barks because she is afraid to come back down. The stairs are now gated. winnie is trying hard to jump onto the couch, but Teddy is thankful that she can't do it. Once she can we might be in trouble......

I will try to put up some pictures from home tonight.
