Willy the Wonder Wolfling is not puzzled by the puzzles I got. He turned the snuffle mat upside down immediately and got all of the treats. He opened and emptied all of the lids and sliders of the Nina Ottosson puzzle (see picture) almost before I could dispose of the packaging.
Any suggestions for our Advanced Placement ready puppy?
There was a post a while back about using an old tea towel, spread it out, scatter a few treats ( up to you how many) and then tightly roll the two opposite corners towards the middle. Then tie it in as many knots as you can pulled tight. I can usually get three knots. This will keep Toff busy for a good 10 minutes ( if I pull the knots really tight). Afterwards this distraction and effort, he’s usually much quieter and may even dose for a bit 👍😁
This is a fun distraction for some dogs. For others, it will encourage dogs to rip into cloth with their teeth… something I wouldn’t want to teach my dogs. So watch carefully, and if you see this behavior, I’d put a quick stop to this particular game. (Spoken as someone who has lost WAY too many jacket pockets to enterprising smarty pants dogs who NEVER were shown how to get treats out of tea towels. )
